Encoding and adaptive, scalable accessing of distributed models

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for user interaction with machine translation. A user interface for receiving requests to translate text and/or documents from a first language text to a second language text. The translated text and/or document is displayed such that the first language text corresponding to a selected portion of the second language text can be accessed and displayed in the same user interface.

Displaying original text in a user interface with translated text

Many websites publish variants of their web pages based on language and region. However, when a user is directed toward the incorrect web page for the user's language preference, it there is not a simple way for the user to select the appropriate localized or region specific version of the web page. According to an embodiment, a language preference from a user may be received. A first language for a first web page may be identified and the first web page may be received by a computing device of the user. A second language for a second web page may be identified. The second web page may comprise an alternate version of the first web page. The first web page or the second web page may be selected according to the language preference of the user and the selected web page may be presented to the user.

Alternative web pages suggestion based on language

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for cross-language information retrieval. In general, one aspect of the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods that include the actions of receiving a query in a source language, the query including one or more query terms; automatically determining one or more target languages relevant to the query; translating the query into one or more translated queries in the respective one or more target languages; determining search results responsive to the respective one or more translated queries; and providing one or more of the search results.

Language selection for information retrieval

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for cross-language information retrieval. A source query in a source language is received. The source query is translated into a target query in a target language. One or more target-language resources that satisfy the target query are identified. The identified resources are translated into the source language. Search results corresponding to the translated resources are presented.

Cross-language information retrieval

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for translation of markup language documents with display replacement. In some implementations, a method includes displaying a markup language document in an original language by rendering an internal representation of the document, sending a data structure containing the texts from the text nodes of the internal representation, as distinct data entities, to a translation service, replacing the texts with translated texts received from the translation service resulting in a translated representation, and displaying a first translation of the document by rendering the translated representation. In some implementations, partial, incremental translation is performed. In some implementations, a method includes receiving a notification that a phrase in a markup language document has been selected, requesting translation of the text of the selected phrase, and then displaying a received translation in a user interface.

Web translation with display replacement

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for cross-language information retrieval. In general, one aspect of the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods that include the actions of identifying a structured collection of documents, the collection of documents being organized according to a hierarchy of categories; extracting entities from structured collection of document; assigning language scores to each document in the collection of documents; assigning language scores to entities based on scores of associated documents of the collection of documents; and generating a mapping between entities and language scores.

Methods, program products and systems for first receiving an indication of when a user-manipulable cursor is positioned in proximity to a first presentation of first text in a graphical user interface (GUI), the first text being in a first language. In response to the first receiving, causing a second presentation in the GUI of second text in a distinct second language, where the second text represents a translation of the first text into the second language or the first text represents a translation of the second text into the first language. Second user input to the GUI is received providing an alternate translation of the first text to the second text or the second text to the first text.

Machine translation feedback

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for translation of web documents. The original language of document text in the web document is identified. A translation header is displayed with the web document text only if the original language is different from a user's preferred language. The translation header provides the user with an option of translating the document text or portions of the document text to the user's preferred language.
