A polymer composition that comprises an olefinic polymer, a flame retardant that includes a halogen-free mineral filler, and a compatibilizing agent is provided. The halogen-free mineral filler constitutes from about 20 wt. % to about 80 wt. % of the composition. The composition may exhibit a degree of water uptake of about 5 wt. % or less after being immersed in water for seven days at a temperature of 23&#xb0; C.

Polymer composition for use in cables

A polymer composition that can be used to form a melt-extruded film is provided. The polymer composition may contain an olefinic polymer and a transition metal salt. By selectively controlling specific aspects of the polymer and the transition metal salt, as well as the relative concentration of each component, the present inventors have discovered that the resulting composition can exhibit a relatively fast oxidation rate, which has been found to improve the adhesion of the composition to a wide variety of substrates.

A medical tube that contains a polymer composition that is generally flexible and biocompatible is provided. The polymer composition contains at least one ethylene vinyl acetate polymer and at least one viscoelastic additive. By selectively controlling specific aspects of the ethylene vinyl acetate polymer (e.g., vinyl acetate content, melt flow index, density, etc.), the viscoelastic additive, and the manner in which they are blended, the resulting composition can exhibit a reduced tendency to kink when formed into the medical tube.

An oil resistant polymer composition is disclosed that contains a thermoplastic elastomer combined with an olefin and vinyl acetate copolymer on an oleophobic agent. In one embodiment, the composition contains a thermoplastic polyester elastomer combined with an ethylene and vinyl acetate copolymer. In order to render the polymer composition oil resistant, the polymer composition can further contain an UHMW silicone, a fluoropolymer, and optionally a crosslinking agent and/or an antiplasticizer.

Disclosed is a multilayer film. The multilayer film has the general structure of A/B/A/C or B/A/B/C, wherein A is a nucleated high density polyethylene (HDPE) layer, B is a single or multilayer structure, and C is a seal layer. Adding a nucleating agent to HDPE improves the water vapor barrier property of the HDPE layer and the multilayer film, but it also causes the multilayer film to curl in the conventional multilayer film structures. The invention provides a multilayer film, which includes at least one layer of nucleated HDPE, with reduced or eliminated curling while retaining high water vapor barrier.

Disclosed is a colored high density polyethylene composition. The composition comprises a high density polyethylene, phthalocyanine blue, and talc. The composition exhibits reduced warpage in molded articles compared to those which do not contain talc. The composition is useful for injection molding and many other applications where a blue color is needed and low warpage is desired.

Polyethylene compositions and films having improved strength and optical properties

Disclosed is a multimodal, high density, homopolyethylene barrier resin. The resin is preferably made by a multistage process. The process comprises a first stage in which ethylene is homopolymerized in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst, organoaluminum cocatalyst, alkoxysilane modifier, and hydrogen. The reaction mixture from the first stage is devolatilized to remove all or substantially all of the hydrogen. The polymerization continues in a second stage wherein ethylene is added to the devolatilized reaction mixture to produce the barrier resin. The barrier resin provides films with improved barrier properties.
