There is provided inter alia a process for stabilizing a eukaryotic cell line which expresses PylRS and tRNAPyl and which is suitable for incorporation of a gene encoding a target protein containing one or more non-natural amino acids encoded by a nonsense codon which comprises culturing said cell line under conditions in which the adverse effect of tRNAPyl expression on cell viability and/or cell growth is reduced or eliminated.

Cell lines

The present invention is directed to a powder paint delivery method and apparatus employing a pressurized reservoir pump that supplies a controlled stream of densely fluidized or dense phase powder paint to the applicator though a powder delivery conduit. The powder flow rate is a function of the pressure in the reservoir and the flow resistance from the reservoir to the applicator, and is therefore very stable over time, and simple to control. The powder flow can be controlled by holding the resistance of the powder flow path constant and varying the pressure in the reservoir, or by holding the reservoir pressure constant and varying the resistance of the powder flow path.

Powder transport method and apparatus

An apparatus and process for allowing a powder paint system to utilize reclaimed oversprayed powder paint of various colors by collecting it in a common reclaim collector system. The reclaimed powder paint is then applied to a work piece as a base coat to attain a portion of the total film build required. The remainder of the film thickness is then applied in subsequent application of virgin powder paint.

Method for applying powder paint

A rotary valve thermal oxidizer including an interfacial seal disposed between rotating and fixed valve portions to prevent the mixing of treated and untreated gas streams. In a preferred embodiment, the valve sealing device includes a flowable sealing material contained within a receptacle, and contacted by a partition nested within the receptacle. Other sealing devices, as well as purge and/or sealing gases, may be employed to prevent leakage, while avoiding the use of machined parts.

Rotary valve thermal oxidizer

A process for treating paint sludge in which previously cured paint sludge powder is used as a diluent and mixed with wet paint sludge. The paint powder/sludge mixture is agitated and heated to cure the paint sludge. Processing can occur either continuously or in batch mode, and can be accomplished using a mixer charged with heated gases, or a heated mixer.

Method for processing paint sludge

An integrated paint spray booth and air conditioning system and process utilize a spray booth housing, scrubber and filtering chambers located below the housing, and an air conditioning apparatus including an adiabatic saturator. The components are arranged to direct the air flow in the system substantially transverse to the length of the system. The air is conditioned to predetermined psychrometric values by sensing only the temperature of the water entering the saturator and the air exiting the conditioning apparatus.

Integrated paint spray booth and air conditioning system and process

A method and apparatus are disclosed for the treatment of paint sludge and for reducing volatile organic compound emissions from a paint spraybooth operation, thereby obtaining a recyclable material for use in new coating products. In such an operation, uncured paint resins mixed with volatile organic compounds are sprayed onto an article to be painted and at least a portion of the overspray is mixed with water to form a waste stream containing water, uncured paint resin, volatile organic compounds and inorganic substances. The method includes the steps of: removing a portion of the water and liquid volatile organic compounds from the waste stream; heating the resultant sludge to volatilize the residual water and liquid volatile organic compounds and to cure the uncured paint resin; collecting the residual solids stream, and removing all of the volatilized organic compounds from the resultant stream, thereby generating a volatile organic compound-free gas effluent. The amount of volatized organic compounds removed is at least about 5% of the volatile organic compounds input to the paint spraybooth operation. The apparatus includes a waste paint stream dewatering device and an enclosed rotary screw heat exchanger maintained in an inert environment; the apparatus also provides a system for adding a scouring aggregate to the sludge before heating and for removing the aggregate after heating. Finally, the apparatus includes a separator for removing entrained solids from the resulting gas stream, and provides a system for processing the gas stream to remove all volatile organic compounds.

Method for treating waste paint sludge

An apparatus for use in measuring fluid flow across a boundary is disclosed including a conduit, supply means for control fluid and two fluid flow sensors. The conduit is positioned to extend across the boundary so that its open ends are located on opposite sides of the boundary. The supply means introduces control fluid at an intermediate point so that control fluid flows through the conduit in opposite directions and discharges through both open ends. The fluid flow sensors are mounted so that each may sense variations in control fluid flow exiting at the ends of the conduit. These sensors generate output signals responsive to fluid flow across the boundary.

Apparatus for measuring and controlling fluid flow across a boundary

A low velocity oven seal for use with an elongated oven complex of the type in which articles to be processed are moved longitudinally through the oven. The seal includes an air seal compartment adapted to be aligned with the entry end of the oven complex to form a prefix to the oven complex. In one form of the invention, a blower assembly is mounted on the roof of the air seal compartment adjacent the exit end of the comparment and functions to withdrawn air from the upper region of the air seal compartment adjacent the exit end thereof for delivery to a pair of plenum chambers disposed at either side of the air seal compartment. The air delivered to the plenum chamber is introduced into the lower region of the air seal compartment generally below the path of the articles being processed within the oven complex and this air in turn moves upwardly and toward the exit of the air seal compartment where it is received by the inlet to the blower assembly to complete the air cycle. In another embodiment of the invention, the air is withdrawn from the upper region of the exit end of the air seal chamber by ducting which communicates with the existing exhaust ducting of the convection heating compartment of the oven and the air reintroduced into the air seal through the plenum chambers is supplied to the plenum chambers through ducting connecting with the existing air supply system of the convection heating compartment.

Low velocity air seal

Methods for continuous drying of sludges. Large scouring particles are added to a sludge to be dried to create a mixture which is passed through a rotary screw type indirect heat exchanger. The scouring particles are large relative to the particulates of suspended and dissolved solids which result from drying in the heat exchanger. During the process of drying and conveying the mixture through the heat exchanger the scouring particles continuously remove the particulate residue from the surfaces of the heat exchanger. It also appears that the particles assist in the actual heat transfer between the heat exchanger surfaces and the sludge by absorbing and subsequently releasing heat through relatively large surface areas. The scouring particles can be consumptive, that is, consumed in processes during subsequent handling of the residue, or nonconsumptive. In the nonconsumptive case, upon discharge from the heat exchanger the scouring particles are separated from the particulate residue and recycled for mixing again with the sludge.

Sludge processing

A paint spray booth in which articles such as automobiles are sprayed while moving along a conveyor line passing through the working area of the booth. Air is moved from an area above the articles and downwardly around the articles for discharge through a plurality of longitudinally spaced vertical passages positioned along the center line of the booth and water supplied to a pan positioned beneath the articles is caused to cascade down the vertical passages for mixture with the spray-laden air so that the spray is transferred from the air to the water. As the air leaves the lower ends of the vertical passages, it is directed laterally to impact one side of the booth, thence abruptly upwardly to separate entrained water, and thence in the other lateral direction toward the other side of the booth for passage through the spaces defined between the vertical passages. The tubular members defining the vertical passages are arranged to provide a baffling action and cause the air to give up remaining water so that the air discharged from the exhaust stack of the spray booth is substantially free of water and hence may be discharged into the atmosphere without fear of polluting surrounding areas.
