Methods and apparatus for braking may control a brake between three states. Methods and apparatus for braking may comprise a sensor for sensing information about a brake input device, may comprise a brake control system coupled with the brake and the brake input device, and may control the brake based on the sensed information and input to the brake input device. Methods and apparatus for braking may control the brake to engage a friction material with a rotor if the brake input device indicates the brake should be engaged, and to remove the friction material from contact with the rotor if the brake input device indicates the brake should not be engaged. Methods and apparatus for braking may determine a condition of imminent braking based on the sensed information and may control the brake to enter a ready-to-engage state accordingly.

A beverage brewing device has an integral server locking mechanism. The beverage server (10) has top and bottom portions, (16) and (18), having first and second lips, (12) and (14), respectively. An opening in a lower server support plate (20) has a first retaining face (22) which contacts the first lip. The server support plate is preferably pivotably mounted about a pivot point (26) and biased to apply an upward force to the first end of the server. An upper server support plate (30) is positioned at the other end of the beverage server. The second support plate pivots about a second pivot point (36) and is biased downwardly, toward the first base plate. Thus, the support plates cooperate in a clamshell-like manner to secure the beverage brewing device therebetween.

An air pump for use with a chain-driven bicycle having a free wheel. The pump assembly comprises a pair of opposed cylinders and a double-ended piston rod mounted in a housing. The piston rod has a bearing slot, which engages a crank pin on a crankshaft driven by a sprocket. Rotation of the sprocket reciprocates the double-ended piston rod in the cylinders. The cylinders are each integrally formed with a manifold that uses an elastomeric band covering a passage from the cylinder interior to inside the manifold as a one-way valve. An enlarged diameter skirt on each cylinder allows air to enter the cylinder on each intake stroke. A cap defining the piston head is locked onto each piston and holds a seal in place on the piston. An integral clamp assembly allows the pump to be removably mounted on a bicycle chain stay. The lower run of the bicycle drive chain engages the drive sprocket of the pump assembly, and a chain retainer is used to maintain the engagement of the drive chain with the drive sprocket. Reverse rotation of the bicycle's crank assembly causes the conventional free wheel to also rotate in a reverse direction without rotating the wheel of the bicycle. The resulting movement of the chain over the drive sprocket of the pump rotates the drive sprocket, which reciprocates the double-ended piston rod in the cylinders, and pumps air to an article to be inflated, such as the bicycle tire(s).
