A data replication system and method. The method and apparatus provides for an efficient means of replicating data over a network in the form of a file between two individuals, or within defined groups of individuals, using a variety of devices to access the Internet, including computers, personal data assistants ('PDA's) and wireless devices. A group is formed through an exchange of invitation, acceptance, and welcome messages. A group member designates a replication directory on the group member's computer. Files placed in the directory are replicated and stored in the replication directory of each of the other members of the group. Any change to a replicated file causes a message by one member to be sent to all other members. Changes are conveyed via patches that represent the changes made to a replicated file. Replicated files are saved without replacing previous versions of the replicated file. The group formation and file replication processes are accomplished using existing network protocols.

Data replication system and method

An information object allows arbitrary structured or unstructured information to be bundled with instructions for processing. The object is packed into a container with a well defined structure that is processed on a client computer system. The client computer system possesses a runtime environment that processes the information object and allows it to communicate with other applications. The information object is fundamentally different from a file system or other types of container systems in its assignment of context to entries. By applying a context identifier, the runtime system which processes the information object, retrieves selected entries for selected tasks.

Information objects system, method, and computer program organization

A system and method for system for electronic communication, in which functional enhancements may be added that require no modification or replacement of the content-storing servers and is transparent to web browser software. The system includes a front-end proxy server and at least one back-end server. The front-end proxy server receives a content request from a user system, processes the content request, and transmits the processed content request to a back-end server. The front-end proxy server receives a content item corresponding to the processed content request from the back-end server and transmits the content item to the user system. The back-end server comprises a content storage device containing a plurality of content items. The back-end server receives processed content requests from the front-end proxy server, retrieves a content item corresponding to the content request and transmits the retrieved content item to the front-end proxy server.

Front-end proxy for transparently increasing web server functionality

A cryptographic encoded, ticket issuing and collection system for real-time purchase of tickets by purchasers at remote user stations in an information network that includes a plurality of remote user stations coupled to a server in an information network, e.g., the Internet, for purchase of services, products, or tickets to an event. An operator of the remote user station selects a ticket for purchase to an event using standard protocols of information network. An electronic ticket is transmitted to the operator and includes a cypher code created using a public key cryptography system. The operator displays the electronic ticket for verification purposes and proceeds to print out the ticket at the station. The ticket is presented to a ticket collector whereupon the ticket is scanned by a portable terminal for decoding the cypher code using a public key reloaded into the terminal by the producers of the event. The decoded cypher code is compared against the event description stored in the portable terminal and if equal, the ticket is accepted for admission to the event. The ticket information is stored in the portable terminal and subsequently uploaded to the information system to check for duplicate tickets.
