A tool for lifting and removing heavy lids, such as manhole covers and similar articles. The tool includes an elongate lever with a handgrip at the upper end and a pivot head at the lower end. Wheels on the pivot head provide a pivot axis, with a hook being mounted in front of the pivot axis and a footplate being mounted behind the axis. The hook is inserted in an opening in the lid, and the lid is then lifted and removed by pulling back on the lever and stepping down on the footplate. After removal, the lid can be transported by rolling the assembly over the ground using the wheels. The invention thus facilitates removal and installation of heavy lids with minimal strain and potential injury to the operator.

Apparatus for removal of vault lids and other heavy covers

An exercise rowing machine has swing-mounted rowing arms with chopper plates at their lower ends which have a series of light-passing ports arranged along an arc to swing through the gaps between the emitters and receivers of a pair of side-by-side light emitter/receiver units. A circuit containing these units is connected to a microprocessor programmed for outputs, such as length and duration of rowing arm strokes, using inputs from the emitter/receiver units.

System for determining performance on an exercise rowing machine

An exercise rowing machine has a frame structure with a center track rail, front and rear cross-members supporting the track rail, and a U-frame connected to the track rail and the front cross-member. The front cross-member is a one-piece molded part providing a seat for the track rail, saddles for a pivot shaft for foot plates, clevises for pivotal connection to hydraulic cylinder units which are pivotally connected to rowing arms in turn pivotally connected to the U-frame, sockets for receiving the U-frame, and supports for front transport wheels.
