An apparatus for sitting, including: a keystone assembly which connects various parts of the apparatus; a back that provides support for at least a person's back or shoulders; a floating lumbar support, which provides support for a person's lower back, attached to the keystone assembly; a seat that can adjust between a forward tilted and reclined position; a plurality of rollers, disposed on the keystone assembly, on which the seat rests; a central column, attached to the keystone assembly, on which the seat can spin; and a lower torsion spring connected to the seat and disposed on the keystone assembly allowing controlled movement of the seat.

A multimedia computerized literacy system providing for and enhancing the teaching of Literacy Skills to enable people to function more effectively in schools, society, and the workplace. The design of the system is based on the identification and understanding of the structures, contents, and strategies which underlie prose, document, and quantitative literacy. In particular, the system's design is based, in part, on the Knowledge Model Procedure, which builds upon a unique taxonomy of document structures, contents, and strategies in a way that facilitates the transfer of Literacy Skills across the wide array of document types, as well as across quantitative and prose Literacy Skills. In accordance with the Knowledge Model Procedure, the computerized literacy system, through a series of structure and use lessons, provides students with the skills to perform document, prose, and quantitative tasks of increasing complexity. The system uses specially designed exercise and practice tasks to enhance students' abilities to perform literacy tasks commonly required of adolescents and adults in modern society.

A method and system for interactive test taking is provided, having a computer with memory, an image display screen, and a pointing device such as a mouse for examinee manipulation of symbols or objects on the screen. Starting figural material is presented on the screen along with a problem statement requiring responses relative to the starting figural material. The examinee inputs response data through the mouse, manipulating and/or generating symbols on the screen in relation to the starting figural material. Scoring of the examinee's responses is done on-line or after completion of all tasks, and may include an evaluation of the sequence of examinee responses to respective items, as well as an evaluation of the duration of the examinee's response or any component of such response to an item.
