Printers and associated printer maintenance methods and apparatus are disclosed. An example printer includes a nozzle to dispense fluid; a wiper to wipe the nozzle during a maintenance event; and a controller to cause the nozzle to dispense fluid during the maintenance event while the wiping material engages or is immediately adjacent the nozzle to deter a substance from being present within the nozzle.

Printers and associated printer maintenance

A method of preparing a printer cartridge for transport may comprise applying a volume of immiscible fluid to a nozzle bore of a printhead. A printer cartridge may comprise a volume of immiscible fluid deposited into a nozzle bore of a nozzle of the printhead and a layer of immiscible fluid applied over the nozzle bore opening. A printhead die may comprise a volume of immiscible fluid deposited into a nozzle bore of the die and a layer of immiscible fluid applied over the nozzle bore opening.

Preparing a printer cartridge for transport

A fluid ejection device controller for controlling a fluid ejection device of a three dimensional printing system has a processor and a memory. The memory includes executable instructions that when executed by the processor causes the fluid ejection device controller to control a motion of the fluid ejection device to print agent onto a layer of build material in a build area; and to flush agent through at least one nozzle of the fluid ejection device in response to detecting, by the fluid ejection device controller, an erroneous stopping of the motion of the fluid ejection device and the fluid ejection device being positioned on top of the build area.

Flushing a fluid ejection device

A printer may comprise a printhead comprising a number of nozzles, an immiscible fluid applicator, and a processor to instruct the immiscible fluid applicator to apply immiscible fluid onto the surface of the printhead to cap the number of nozzles. A printer subassembly may comprise an immiscible fluid applicator to wipe a layer of immiscible fluid onto a surface of a printhead. A printer may comprise a page wide array printhead, an immiscible fluid applicator to wipe a layer of immiscible fluid over a printhead to cap nozzles over the width of the printhead, and a controller to instruct the printhead to print after the layer of immiscible fluid has been applied over the printhead so that ink ejects through the immiscible fluid while non-used nozzles remain capped by the immiscible fluid layer.

A printing system may comprise a page wide array printhead a capping station, and a number of modular caps comprising a housing to cover a nozzle array of a printhead and a cap coupler coupled to the housing to couple the cap to the nozzle array in which the modular caps are adapted to be coupled to and removed from the nozzle array of the printhead and stored in the capping station.

Methods and apparatus control the ejection of fluid from a nozzle by selectively actuating a fluid actuator that displaces and ejects fluid through an ejection orifice of the nozzle. The methods and apparatus at least partially closing the ejection orifice of the nozzle, while the fluid actuator is inactive, to reduce evaporation of the fluid.

Priming printheads can, in various examples, include moving a movable member of a printhead from a first position to a second position, measuring a response time of the movable member to move from the first position to the second position, and identifying the printhead as primed.

Methods and apparatus to control a heater associated with a printing nozzle are disclosed. A method comprising controlling a heater associated with a printing nozzle to reduce a heat output of the heater based on a determination that the printing nozzle is outside a print area and printing an image on a substrate using other printing nozzles while the heat output of the heater is reduced.

Methods and apparatus to selectively control ink evaporation in printhead nozzles are disclosed. An example printhead for use with a printer includes a plurality of nozzles () and a plurality of valves () positioned adjacent respective ones of the nozzles () to selectively control fluid flow through the respective nozzle ().

Method and apparatus to reduce ink evaporation in printhead nozzles

A printer is disclosed herein. The printer has a printhead having a plurality of ink nozzles for ejecting ink, a servicing mechanism for capturing the ejected ink from the ink nozzles, to service the printhead, and a control device coupled to the printhead and the servicing mechanism for regulating the servicing. As part of the regulation, the control device continues feeding a substrate towards the printhead during an idle period. The idle period of the printhead can be a duration when printing on the substrate is suspended. Further, the control device regulates ejection of ink from the ink nozzles towards the substrate during the idle period and operates the servicing mechanism during the idle period. In an example, the servicing mechanism captures the ink before the ink reaches the substrate.

Servicing a printhead of a printer

According to one example, there is provided a printing system having a print bar on which are installable multiple printheads. The system comprises a nozzle servicing module moveable across the length of the print bar to selectively perform a nozzle servicing operation on a group of printhead nozzles.
