A lighting device includes a support structure formed from a thermally conductive material such as aluminum. The support structure or extrusion has a channel for receiving and retaining a circuit board with a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed thereon. One or more fins adapted for dissipating heat produced by the LEDs may be disposed on the support structure. The support structure may also include one or more retaining members for retaining one or more optical elements in relation to the LEDs and a support tray for holding a power supply.

LED lighting device and system

A lighting device includes a support structure formed from a thermally conductive material such as aluminum. The support structure or extrusion has a channel for receiving and retaining a circuit board with a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed thereon. One or more fins adapted for dissipating heat produced by the LEDs may be disposed on the support structure. The support structure may also comprise multiple arrays of LEDs arranged laterally.

An LED bulb assembly includes a pinion, a plurality of LEDs, an upper heat sink, and a lower base. The plurality of LEDs are configured or arranged around a surface of the pinion, such that the optical axis of the LEDs face outward. An upper heat sink may be configured to provide heat transfer for the LEDs and pinion. The lower base may be configured to provide a connection to the pinion and an upper heat sink. In embodiments, one or more optical elements (e.g., lenses) or LED covers may be included. Further, for some embodiments, the upper heat sink may be upwardly offset a separation distance from an upper surface of the pinion, and may be configured to improve air flow to the upper heat sink.

LED bulb, assembly, and method

A light assembly and reflector are provided for redirecting light from a light source in a motor vehicle. The reflector generally includes a first parabolic trough, a second parabolic trough, and third trough. The first and second parabolic troughs define first and second trough axes. The third trough has a third trough axis. The first and second parabolic troughs are positioned on opposing sides of the third trough, and the first and second trough axes are angled relative to the third trough axis. In this manner, the reflector collects and reflects a sufficient amount of light while providing control over the beam pattern spread, particularly in the horizontal direction, whereby a single LED may be employed such that constraints imposed by heat dissipation are significantly reduced.

A near field lens for an automotive light assembly which has a reduced thickness. Generally, the near field lens includes a main body of light transmitting material. A pocket is formed in the main body for receiving light from a light source. The pocket is defined by an inner radially facing surface and an inner axially facing surface. The inner radially facing surface is structured to reduce the thickness of the lens.

A light assembly is provided having a lens assembly that splits the function of a near field lens into two components, thereby permitting a manufacturable lens that achieves the desired beam size and intensity. At the same time, increased flexibility and control over the beam spread characteristics is achieved. The first component is an inner lens, while the second component may be a reflector or a second lens.

A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle having a light source, a chamber that receives the light source and a cooling channel for removing heat from the chamber. A conductive wall and an insulating wall cooperate to define the chamber and the channel. The conductive wall has a substantially higher thermal conductivity than the insulating wall to promote the heat exchange between the chamber and the cooling channel and to reduce heat exchange between the cooling channel and the relatively hot engine compartment.

A LED bulb and light module utilizes a LED light source and directs light therefrom in a manner which improves efficiency and illumination. Ideally, the LED bulb is structured to create a virtual image whereby the efficiency of light directed out of the module is greatly improved, even with a single LED light source. The LED bulb generally includes a light pipe receiving light from the LED light source and guides the light downstream to a downstream portion which redirects the light radially outwardly.

A near field lens is for an automotive light assembly, generally comprising a central body positioned between opposing side bodies. The central body extends in a vertical direction, while the side bodies are positioned on horizontal sides of the central body. The opposing side bodies are structured to collimate the light both horizontally and vertically, while the central light body is structured to collimate the light vertically but not substantially collimate the light horizontally.

A LED bulb and light module utilizes a LED light source and directs light therefrom in a manner which improves efficiency and illumination. A light manifold for an automotive light module emitting light to the side of a longitudinal axis along which light is to be directed. The light module is structured in a manner that permits the creation of light distribution patterns for particular functions, such as the stop light function for an automobile, that are otherwise difficult to effectively produce.

A lamp assembly including a number of light sources each utilized in conjunction with an optical element. The optical elements include a body of light transmitting material which further includes a top surface, a bottom surface, a front surface and a plurality of facets. The facets receive light through the front surface and reflect light through the top surface. The assembly further includes a manifold defined by the optical elements. When viewed in a direction toward the top surface, a majority of the optical elements have a common shape, preferably a pie wedge shape.

An illumination system for delivering light includes a light source, a reflector including a reflective surface adapted to reflect visible light from the light source and to allow heat energy to pass through the reflector, and a housing. The housing includes a base defining a first cavity and a heat dissipation portion extending from said base and defining a second cavity with an opening extending therebetween. The housing is adapted to support the light source and provides a thermal barrier between the housing and the light source. The heat dissipation portion is adapted to transfer heat energy from the reflector to a surrounding environment. A ballast is mounted to the housing to supply power to the light source and a cap is mounted to the heat dissipation portion and is adapted to interconnect the heat dissipation portion to an optical light distribution system.
