An orthopaedic prosthesis for use in a hip replacement surgery includes an implantable stem component. The implantable stem component includes a core and a shell extending over the core. The shell includes a polymeric material and is configured to receive a femoral head component. Metal foam may extend over a portion of the shell.

Femoral component for an implantable hip prosthesis and method of making same

A femoral prosthesis system for an orthopaedic hip implant and method of use is disclosed. The prosthesis system includes a femoral stem component that includes a core body and a casing that encases the core body. The casing can be additively manufactured such that the core body defines a predetermined orientation in the core body among a plurality of permissible predetermined orientations. The femoral stem component can further include a neck and a trunnion that extends from the neck. The neck can extend out with respect to the core body at a predetermined angle within a range of permissible predetermined angles.

Patient specific femoral prosthesis

Kits and methods for use in intraoperative trailing of hip prostheses to determine an appropriate length for the femoral neck component of a prosthetic hip joint, are described. A kit for use in selecting a femoral neck component of an orthopaedic joint prosthesis kit comprises a first () and a second () broach. Each of the first and second broaches has a neck connection element comprising a projection () extending from a proximal surface () of the broach, each projection having a length (L). The projection on the first broach has a different length than the projection on the second broach. The kit also includes a trial femoral neck () component having a neck connection element in the form of a recess () in a distal surface (). The recess is configured to mate with the projection on each of the first or second broaches such that mating of the trial femoral neck component with the first broach provides an assembly with a first neck length, and the mating of the trial femoral neck component with the second broach provides an assembly with a second neck length.

An orthopaedic prosthesis for use in a hip replacement surgery. The orthopaedic prosthesis includes a metallic foam shell and a metallic core. The metallic core includes a neck configured to receive a femoral head component and a stem extending through the metallic foam shell.

Dual modulus hip stem and method of making the same

An orthopedic prosthetic hip assembly and method for use during performance of a hip replacement procedure. The assembly includes a femoral stem component having a tapered trunnion and a femoral head component having a tapered bore. Upon insertion of the tapered trunnion into the tapered bore, a taper lock is formed and a seal provides a fluid-tight closure.

Modular taper seal and method for orthopaedic prosthetic hip assembly

A disassembly tool for disassembly of a first component of a prosthesis to a second component of the prosthesis for use in joint arthroplasty. The tool includes a first member having a radial portion operably associated with the first component and adapted to exert a radial force on the first component. A second member operably associated with the second component is also included and the second member has a second member longitudinal axis. A drive mechanism is coupled to the second member, such that as the drive mechanism is activated, the second member exerts a force against the second component in the direction of the longitudinal axis. Such exertion of force against the second member further causes the second member to move relative to the first member along the second member longitudinal axis.

Disassembly tool

A modular femoral prosthesis system for an orthopedic hip implant and method of use is disclosed. The prosthesis system includes a femoral stem component and a plurality of collar components configured to be selectively coupled to the stem component in a fixed position adjacent to a neck of the stem component. Each of the collar components includes a base and is configured to secure an assembled femoral prosthesis to a patient's surgically prepared femur to provide stability for the assembled femoral prosthesis.

An assembly tool for assembly of a first component of a prosthesis to a second component of the prosthesis for use in joint arthroplasty. The tool includes a first member operably associated with the first component and a second member operably associated with the second component. The second member includes a cap having a threaded recess and further includes a threaded rod adapted to engage the threaded recess so as to move the second member relative to the first member and the threaded rod is made of a harder metal than the threaded recess.

Spiral assembly tool

An instrument for assembling an implant on a neck. The implant and neck being coupled via a taper having a taper axis. The instrument includes a frame having a distal portion and a proximal portion, the distal portion of the frame including a retaining member adapted to engage a portion of the neck. The retaining member includes a pair of moveable arms extending from the distal portion of the frame, the pair of moveable arms adapted to engage a pair of recesses on opposing sides of the neck. The instrument also includes a force applier retained in the proximal portion of the frame. The force applier includes a screw having a screw axis that is coaxial with the taper axis, wherein the screw is adapted to engage the implant. As the screw is turned, the force applier applies a force on the implant while the neck is held in place by the frame, thereby causing the tapers of the implant and neck to engage.

Assembly tool

An orthopedic prosthesis for use in a hip replacement surgery. The orthopedic prosthesis includes an elongated stem component that has a proximal body, a neck extending superiorly and medially from the proximal body and a tapered stem extending inferiorly from the proximal body. An anchor is positioned on the neck and is configured to be engaged by a surgical instrument. A system for use in assembling the orthopedic prosthesis and a method of assembly are also disclosed.
