A pressure sensitive adhesive emulsion comprises a disperse silicone phase emulsified in a continuous water phase in the presence of a surfactant. The disperse silicone phase comprises 40-80 percent by weight of a silicone pressure sensitive adhesive, which is the product of mixing a silanol-terminated polydiorganosiloxane of Tg below &minus;20&deg; C. with a silanol-containing silicone resin of Tg above 0&deg; C., dispersed in 60-20 percent by weight of a volatile silicone fluid having a boiling point below 300&deg; C. The emulsion is substantially free of any non-silicon atom containing volatile organic material.

Catalyst composition and methods for the preparation thereof

A method is described for making a silicone emulsion. According to the method, there is formed a mixture of water, a cyclic siloxane, optionally a nonionic surfactant, and a cationic surfactant. There is then added to the mixture a polymerization initiator which can be a silanolate or an organosilanolate. The mixture is heated and agitated, and the cyclic siloxane is allowed to polymerize until an emulsion is formed. The benefit of this emulsion polymerization method is that the rate of emulsion polymer formation is enhanced. Thus, the method provides for the production of emulsions in a new and more efficient manner. The silicone emulsion will produce an elastomeric product when water is removed under ambient conditions.

This invention relates to solutions of alkali metal stearates which remain soluble and stable at room temperature. In particular, the invention relates to an aqueous solution which includes an alkali metal stearate selected from the group consisting of sodium stearate and potassium stearate, and a water soluble nonionic surfactant. More particularly, the invention relates to a solution which when deposited on a substrate forms a stearate-surfactant lubricant layer upon removal of water. The solutions may be used in neat form or delivered as part of an emulsion.
