The present invention relates to a curable composition comprising an ethylenically unsaturated compound and a specific photoinitiator having dual initiation mechanisms. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of a cured product, in particular a 3D-printed article, with this composition and to the use of this composition for obtaining an ink, a coating, a sealant, an adhesive, a molded article or a 3D-printed article. The invention further pertains to the use of a specific phosphine oxide photoinitiator in a 3D printing composition or 3D printing process.

Curable composition comprising a photoinitiator

A curable composition provides, upon curing, an adhesive made from energy-curable compounds having one set of adhesive properties (i.e., peel, tack and shear) after curing and a second set of adhesive properties after being subjected to some external stimuli, such as heat, light, chemicals or mechanical stresses. The curable composition comprises at least one urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer having a structure comprising: a1) at least one polyol backbone segment having at least one reacted end; a2) at least one reacted polyisocyanate forming a urethane linkage at the at least one reacted end of each of the at least one polyol backbone segment and a3) at least one blocking end group reacted with the at least one reacted polyisocyanate to form a reversible bond and bearing a (meth)acrylate group and a chain terminator or extender.

Curable compositions for use as adhesives having properties capable of being altered based on external stimuli and methods of making and using the same

Compounds useful for formulating inks, 3D printing resins, molding resins, coatings, sealants and adhesives which exhibit reduced shrinkage stress and high hardness and stiffness when cured are described which include a single free radical-polymerizable functional group, one or more urethane and/or ureido linkages and one or more cyclic structural elements per molecule.

Curable compositions having desirable attributes such as rapid curing rates and enhanced physical properties are prepared using admixtures of one or more (meth)acrylate-functionalized compounds and one or more reactive comonomers, such as 1,1-diester-1-alkenes (e.g., methylene malonates), 1,1-diketo-1-alkenes, 1-ester-1-keto-1-alkenes and/or icatonates.

Curable compositions and uses thereof

One-part, curable compositions that have a soft feel when applied as a coating/film and cured, may include a) at least one isocyanurate tri(meth)acrylate or derivative thereof; and at least one of components b)-e), wherein: b) is at least one urethane diacrylate; c) is at least one monofunctional or difunctional reactive diluent; d) is at least one solvent; and e) is additives. The one-part, curable compositions are advantageous with respect to softness and tailorability of softness as well as other properties such as mar resistance, abrasion resistance, stain resistance and chemical resistance. Due to their advantageous properties, embodiments of the one-part, curable compositions described herein are viable for a wide range of coating applications including automotives, aeronautics, cosmetics, small appliances, packaging and consumer electronics. Methods of making and using the one-part, curable are also described herein.

One-part curable soft feel coatings

Curable compositions include a urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer having a number&#x2014;average molecular weight of at least 6000 g/mol; at least one mono(meth)acrylate monomer; a multifunctional crosslinking monomer chosen from acrylate monomers, methacrylate monomers, or combinations thereof; and an ethylene-vinyl acetate grafted terpolymer. The mono(meth)acrylate monomers may include a first mono(meth)acrylate with Tg between 50&#xb0; C. and 175&#xb0; C. and a second mono(meth)acrylate with Tg between &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. and 30&#xb0; C. The curable compositions may be applied onto a surface of a substrate then cured to form a low-tack adhesive layer on the surface. The curable compositions may be cured by exposure to visible radiation, UV radiation, LED radiation, laser radiation, electron-beam radiation, peroxide, accelerator, or heat. Methods for bonding substrates include contacting a second substrate to a tow-tack adhesive layer on a first substrate, then heating the low-tack adhesive layer to bond the substrates and form a laminate.

Curable heat-seal adhesives for bonding polymers

Coatings having a favorable combination of 'soft touch' characteristics and durability are obtained by dual curing compositions containing free radical-curable ethylenically unsaturated compound(s), polyol(s) and polyisocyanate(s).

Dual cure soft touch coatings

Curable compositions include: a) at least one (meth)acrylate monomer or oligomer and b) at least one mono-functional (meth)acrylate monomer comprising a polycyclic moiety having at least three rings that are fused or condensed. The compositions may comprise an initiator system to render the compositions as curable. The compositions may comprise both the a) and b) components in an amount from about 30% to about 70% by weight. The compositions described herein are advantageous with respect to properties such as viscosity, toughness, tensile strength and tensile elongation. Due to their advantageous properties, the compositions are viable for a wide range of applications including coatings, adhesives, sealants, inks and stereolithography. The compositions are liquid at ambient temperature and impart a high glass transition temperature, Tg, without sacrificing other properties, such as elongation. The compositions are useful in 3D printing.

Curable compositions comprising mono-functional acrylates

Compositions useful for forming high gloss, transparent, hard, flexible, weather- and dirt-resistant coatings on substrate surfaces are prepared using a) fluoropolymer, such as KYNAR&#xae; resins and KYNAR Aquatec&#xae; resins from Arkema Inc, b) fluoropolymer-miscible polymer and c) one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds capable of being cured by free radical means, such as urethane acrylate oligomers and monomer reactive diluents from Sartomer USA, LLC. The compositions are capable of being cured by free radical polymerization induced by, for example, irradiation or heating.

Compositions based on fluoropolymers, fluoropolymer-miscible polymers and free radically-curable components

A solvent-free aqueous curable polyurethane dispersion is derived from at least one isocyanate-terminated ethylenically unsaturated polyurethane pre-polymer in a reactive diluent. The polyurethane pre-polymer comprises at least one (meth)acrylate functional group and at least one isocyanate functional group. Methods for making a solvent-free aqueous polyurethane dispersion, curable compositions comprising the dispersion and resulting cured products are also disclosed.

Solvent-free aqueous polyurethane dispersions and methods of producing solvent-free aqueous polyurethane dispersions

The present invention includes silicon-containing (meth)acrylate compounds of formula (I): where A is a C-Corganic moiety such as an alkyl or aryl moiety, B is a silane functional group, C is a (meth)acrylate functional group and D is an allyl functional group, with w=0 or 1, z=0, 1 or 2, x=1, 2 or 3, y=1, 2 or 3 and w+x+y+z=4. The compounds are suitable for use in curable compositions, such as peroxide-curable compositions or radiation-curable compositions and may be applied to a substrate as a coating or sealant, for example. Compositions containing the silicon-containing (meth)acrylate compounds may have reduced volatility and odor problems along with improved adhesion to substrates, increased crosslink density and/or improved hardness.

Silicon-containing (meth) acrylate compounds

A compound which is the Michael addition reaction product of (A) a mono or polyacrylate of the formula R(Ac)wherein Ris an organic radical having at least 2 carbon atoms, Ac is an acrylate radical of the formula CH&#x2550;CHC(O)O&#x2014;, and n is from at least 1; with (B) is a primary or secondary amine of the formula RNHR, wherein Ris a polyhydroxyl radical and Ris H or an organic radical having at least one carbon atom is disclosed. The compound is useful as, for example, an oxygen barrier, flame retardant, polymer flocculant, surfactant, and/or high hydroxyl-functional intermediate.

The invention relates to a method of encapsulating a photovoltaic cell comprising curing an encapsulation composition comprising (i) a polyvinyl acetal resin/polymer, (ii) one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers, oligomers, or a combination thereof, and (iii) at least one thermal free radical initiator and/or at least one photoinitiator. The resin/polymer is either a polyvinyl acetate derivative or a polyvinyl acetate copolymer such as EVA derivative, and comprises vinyl acetal units. Poly(ethylene-butylene) (meth)acrylates and related compositions

Compositions comprising maleinized imide polymer and &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic, the polymer selected from the group consisting of butadiene homopolymer, butadiene copolymers, isoprene homopolymer, isoprene copolymers. and poly(maleic anhydride-co-alkenyl benzenes), are disclosed.
