Toy with light projection and storytelling

A children's toy, and electronic device, plays audio files and projects differently-colored light patterns onto a surface in a room in which the device is placed. The light patterns are projected in synchronization with the playback of such audio files. The device allows users to select from different nature sounds, different melodies, or multiple pre-recorded children's stories. The device also enables users to record their own stories for each of several environments, and playback their custom stories together with projections of light in each environment.

A light projection apparatus in the shape of a toy animal includes components that promote a twinkling effect on a display of light through an outer shell. The outer shell includes apertures that together form a pattern in the appearance of a constellation on a surface when light is projected outwardly from inside the apparatus. Light-emitting members are spread apart internally on a surface within the apparatus, and each member has a perforated cover positioned above it to partially block light emitted therefrom. Each cover has either a different pattern and/or a different orientation relative to the light-emitting member it covers, and each member is also configured to slowly brighten and dim, the combination of which creates the twinkling effect when light is projected out through the apertures. Each member's brightening and dimming function may be at predetermined intervals independent of other members, and may also be of a different color, to increase the effect.

A projector apparatus that may include a first plurality of adjacent translucent lenses on at least one side of an inner lens, said inner lens configured to rotate and translate about an axis (A) of the inner lens; a second plurality of adjacent translucent lenses formed on at least one side of a concave outer lens; a light source configured to direct a portion of light through the rotatable and translatable inner lens and then through the concave outer lens; and a motor configured to rotatably and translatably drive the inner lens in an oscillating manner about and along the axis of the concave inner lens (A); so that the oscillating inner lens imparts a moving textured image for modification through the fixed concave outer lens for display upon a surface, such as a ceiling to simulate a moving liquid surface.
