The disclosure provides embodiments processing and extracting compounds from cannabis. In one embodiment, the method includes providing a composition comprising the cannabis; inserting the composition into a treatment zone; applying a pulsed electric field to the composition within the treatment zone, wherein a portion of the cell membranes of the cannabis are lysed by electroporation to provide a product comprising a lysate; and separating at least a portion of a compound within the lysate from a remainder of the product.

A raised pavement marker includes a reflector assembly that is resiliently supported by a membrane, that in turn is supported by a frame. The reflector assembly includes a skirt that overlaps the membrane, thereby allowing large-area reflectors and low-angle ramp surfaces. A vent is formed between the skirt and the membrane, and this vent is resistant to clogging. Locating elements are placed on the frame of the pavement marker to assist in proper installation of the marker in a recess of a roadway, such that all portions of the frame are positioned below the surface of the roadway. Indentations allow the installer to gauge the level of adhesive in the recess.

A raised pavement marker includes a rigid reflector assembly that supports two retroreflectors. The reflector assembly is resiliently mounted over a base by a resilient membrane, which is secured to the base at its outer edge. When a vehicle contacts the reflector housing, downward forces supplied by the vehicle to the reflector housing deform the membrane, which allows the reflector housing to move downwardly to pavement level. After the vehicle has passed, the resilience of the membrane restores the reflector assembly to its raised position. Methods for installing and removing the pavement marker are disclosed.

The present invention is directed to a pulsed electric-field system, apparatus and method for the effective disinfecting and dewatering previously-dewatered, biologically active waste-water sludges (e.g., municipal waste-water sewage sludge) in an efficient manner, so as to dramatically reduce the resulting volume of the inert waste material which has to be disposed of by the municipality. The method employed sequentially consists of hydraulically pressurizing the previously dewatered sludge, pre-heating the previously dewatered sludge to a predetermined temperature range, exposing the previously dewatered sludge to a high energy pulsing electrical discharges, pressure separation of the resulting solids and liquid fraction, and final pressure extrusion of the separated solids through nozzles.

A method of simultaneously sterilizing a first object and a second object that includes providing a first container with a first exterior surface, the first exterior surface comprises a first microwave interactive layer and defines a first interior space having a first initial temperature. The first object is placed within the first interior space of the first container. The method includes the step of providing a second container with a second exterior surface, the second exterior surface comprises a second microwave interactive layer and defines a second interior space having a second initial temperature. A second object is placed within the second interior space of the second container. The first and second microwave interactive layers are exposed to a first amount of microwaves so that the first microwave layer produces heat which raises the temperature within the first interior space to a predetermined sterilization temperature. The temperature is maintained within the first interior space at the predetermined temperature for an amount of time sufficient to sterilize the first and second objects.

A method of sterilizing an object having the steps of providing a container with an exterior surface that has a microwave interactive layer and defines an interior space having an initial temperature. An object is then placed within the interior space of the container. The surgical instrument container has a first surface having an exterior surface and a support surface and a second surface attached to the bottom having an exterior surface and an inner surface facing the first surface. The support surface and the inner surface define a volume of space into which the surgical instrument is placed therein. The inner surface has a microwave-to-heat transducer that absorbs microwave radiation impinging on the exterior surface of the second surface and converts the absorbed microwave radiation to radiant energy. The microwave-to-heat transducer also prevents substantially all of the microwave radiation impinging on the exterior surface of the second surface from entering the volume of space.
