A process to form an ethylene-based polymer comprising, in polymerized form, ethylene and at least one acid comonomer, said process comprising polymerizing a reaction mixture comprising the ethylene and the acid comonomer, in a reactor configuration comprising at least one Secondary compressor, at least one pressurization device, and at least one reactor selected from the following: at least one autoclave reactor, at least one tubular reactor, or a combination thereof; and wherein the reaction mixture is polymerized in the presence of at least one free-radical initiator, and at a pressure of at least 1000 Bar; and wherein at least a portion of a comonomer composition comprising at least a portion of the acid comonomer used in the polymerization, is compressed, to form a compressed comonomer composition, in the pressurization device, up to a discharge pressure ranging from 1000 Bar to 4000 Bar, and at a discharge temperature (DT) from 10 C to 100 C; and wherein the compressed comonomer composition bypasses the Secondary compressor, and is fed, downstream from the Secondary compressor, into the reactor, and/or into one or more feed streams to the reactor.

High pressure free-radical polymerizations

The invention provides a composition comprising at least the following: an oil, and at least one compound selected from Compounds 1 through 3, or a combination thereof, as described herein. The composition can be used to improve the high pressure, free-radical polymerizations of ethylene-based interpolymers, and to reduce polymer build-up in reciprocation devices throughout the process.

The invention provides a method of injecting a compressed 'comonomer/compound mixture,' comprising a 'comonomer comprising a carboxylic acid,' and at least one compound, into at least one reactor; said method comprising, adding the at least one compound to the comonomer to form the &#x201c;comonomer/compound mixture,&#x201d; prior to compressing and injecting the mixture into the reactor; and wherein the crystallization temperature, at pressure P, of the &#x201c;comonomer/compound mixture&#x201d; is at least 5&#xb0; C. lower than the crystallization temperature, at pressure P, of the comonomer, without the presence of the at least one compound; and wherein the pressure P is greater than 500 bar; and wherein the molar ratio of the at least one compound to the comonomer in the mixture is from 1/10 to 1/1; and wherein the comonomer/compound mixture comprises greater than, or equal to, 30 weight percent of the comonomer, based on the weight of the comonomer/compound mixture; and wherein the melting temperature, at atmospheric pressure, of the at least one compound is less than the melting temperature, at atmospheric pressure, of the comonomer. The invention also provides a method of forming an ethylene-based polymer, as described herein.
