A vortex ring producing gun includes a body defining a first interior volume. The vortex ring producing gun includes a movable nozzle coupled with the body, comprising at least one nozzle opening, and defining a second interior volume. The vortex ring producing gun includes one or more conduits providing fluid communication between said first interior volume and said second interior volume. The vortex ring producing gun includes an energy storage element configured to bias the movable nozzle in a first direction. The vortex ring producing gun includes a latching key configured to hold the movable nozzle in a retained position against the bias from the energy storage element. The vortex ring producing gun includes a movable cocking/firing element configured to interact with the body, the energy storage element, the latching key, and the movable nozzle to selectively cock or fire the vortex ring-producing gun.

The gun comprises a body defining a bore therethrough; a moveable member positioned at least partially within the bore; and a nozzle assembly coupled with the body and positioned at a bore opening. An apparatus for controlling the position of a screen pointer for an electronic device having a display screen includes a light source for illuminating an imaging surface, thereby generating reflected images. The apparatus includes a single chip for receiving the reflected images, generating digital representations of the reflected images, and generating a first set of movement data based on the digital representations of the reflected images. The first set of movement data is indicative of relative motion between the chip and the imaging surface. The single chip includes a serial interface for outputting motion data in a serial format based on the movement data.

A method of scrolling through information displayed on a display screen of an electronic device includes providing a first plurality of user selectable scrolling zones on the display screen. Each scrolling zone in the first plurality of scrolling zones is associated with a scrolling technique. The display screen includes a screen pointer controllable by a user with a screen pointing device. Zone selection information identifying a first one of the scrolling zones selected by a user with the screen pointing device is received. The displayed information is scrolled through based on the scrolling technique associated with the selected scrolling zone.

An apparatus for controlling the position of a screen pointer for an electronic device having a display screen includes a pushbutton for selecting an item displayed on the display screen. The pushbutton includes an imaging surface against which a portion of the tip of a human digit may be placed. A light source illuminates that portion of the tip of the digit that is placed against the imaging surface, thereby generating reflected images. The apparatus includes a motion transducer. A lens receives the reflected images and directs the reflected images onto the motion transducer. The motion transducer generates digital representations of the reflected images. The motion transducer generates a first set of movement data based on the digital representations of the reflected images. The first set of movement data is indicative of motion of the tip of the digit across the imaging surface.

A tone generating circuit comprises a counter circuit having a clock input for receiving a clock signal and a plurality of outputs which generate sequential binary values in response to transitioning of the clock signal; a multiplexer having several inputs, a number of select lines connected to the counter circuit outputs, and at least one output; and a resistor divider network connected to the multiplexer inputs. The multiplexer select lines select one of the multiplexer inputs in accordance with the binary value received from the counter circuit. The multiplexer inputs are connected to different taps on the resistor divider network. The counter selects multiplexer inputs on the falling edge of the clock signal, while the output signal level transitions before the rising edge of the clock signal.
