A fuel cap is provided for use in a filler neck of a tank of a vehicle having body portions which are conductive. The fuel cap includes a housing sized to fit into the filler neck and a cover coupled to an upper end of the housing. The cover is made of a non-conductive resin and an electrically conductive coating covering at least a portion of the non-conductive resin. The coating has a thickness of between approximately 0.1 and 0.6 mil. The fuel cap further includes a conductive discharge member having a first end engaged with the electrically conductive coating of the cover and a second end adapted to be coupled to one of the filler neck and the body of the vehicle to dissipate static charge.

A filler neck closure assembly includes a housing formed to include a vent chamber arranged to receive a fuel-dispensing pump nozzle therein during fuel tank refueling. A flow control valve assembly is provided to regulate flow of ambient air and/or fuel vapor through the vent chamber.

Closure and vent system for capless filler neck

A fuel cap fuel system and method establishing a common electric potential and preventing escape of fuel vapors as used with a fuel system. The cap includes a fuel port closure for engaging a fuel receiving assembly, and an electrically conductive retainer carried on the fuel cap. An electrical charge is passed from an operator of the fuel cap, through the cap, and to the electrically conductive retainer and to the fuel receiving assembly. As the cap is removed from the fuel receiving assembly, the conductive retainer maintains a conductive contact with the fuel receiving assembly to convey a charge therethrough. As fuel vapor escapes from the fuel receiving assembly, the electrical contact is maintained. The seal is disengaged from the fuel port after the cap and fuel receiving assembly achieve a generally common electrical potential.

A lockable fuel cap is provided including a closure member having a drive tooth and a removal hub. The hub includes a drive lug and moves between a lock position in which the drive lug is spaced-apart from the drive tooth and a release position in which the drive lug engages the drive tooth. An outer shell is also provided and includes an interior wall defining a guiding slot to receive the drive lug and guide movement of the removal hub between the two positions. The shell is drivingly coupled to the hub so that the member remains stationary upon rotation of the shell when the drive lug is in the lock position. The member rotates upon rotation of the shell when the drive lug is in the release position.

A filler neck closure cap includes a closure body, a handle coupled to an axially outer flange of the closure body, and an O-ring sealing gasket carried on an axially inner end of the closure body. The cap further includes closure retainer apparatus appended to a middle portion of the closure body to lie in fixed immovable relation to the middle portion. The closure retainer apparatus is configured to engage the filler neck to block removal of the closure body from the filler neck upon installation of the cap in the filler neck.

The cap includes a handle, an o-ring sealing gasket, and a closure body including an upper body portion coupled to the handle and a lower body portion rotatably coupled to the upper body portion for rotation about an axis of rotation. The o-ring sealing gasket is mounted on the lower body portion for movement therewith.

A vent-valve assembly is provided for use in a filler neck fuel cap. The vent-valve assembly includes a valve housing, a vacuum-relief valve subassembly which is spring-biased within the housing to channel ambient air and fuel vapor through the valve housing, and a pressure-relief valve subassembly which rides upon the vacuum-relief valve subassembly. The vacuum-relief valve subassembly includes a vacuum-relief spring and a vacuum-relief valve. The vacuum-relief valve has a valve member which rests upon the vacuum-relief spring and guide legs which depend from the valve member around the vacuum-relief spring. Flanges or feet extend out from the guide legs and engage the valve housing when the pressure-relief valve subassembly is removed from the housing. Thus, the valve housing and vacuum-relief valve cooperate to form an easy-to-assemble, self-contained, vent-valve assembly.

Vent valve assembly for a fuel tank filler neck cap

A closure assembly for a filler neck having a mouth and an inner mounting flange coupled thereto, wherein a closure for the mouth of the filler neck is provided with a body and an inner retainer fixed to the body. The inner retainer having a rigid portion and a cantilevered flexible portion and wherein rotation of the closure initially causes the rigid portion of the retainer to engage the flange so that the closure member is retained by the flange and continued rotation causes the cantilevered flexible portion to be deflected axially downward with respect to the axis of rotation of the closure, without radial movement toward the axis of rotation and to subsequently release the flexible portion to allow the flexible portion to move back to a undeflected position where a detent on the flexible portion enters a notch in the inner mounting flange to restrain relative rotation between the flange and retainer.

A winch assembly is provided for use with a torque-override shaft. The winch assembly includes a winch supported on a winch shaft for rotation therewith and a winch housing defining a first chamber for the winch and including a housing wall with an opening to receive the winch shaft. In addition, the winch assembly includes a torque-override apparatus, a shell defining a second chamber for receiving the torque-override apparatus and having a radially-extending peripheral rim, and means for retaining the peripheral rim in fixed engagement with the housing wall so that the shell is prevented from rotating with respect to the winch housing.

A lockable pressure-release fuel cap is provided to close a filler neck. An actuation system within the fuel cap is operable to enable a user to vent fuel vapor pressure in the filler neck in response to rotation of a key in a lock unit included in the fuel cap prior to removal of the fuel cap from the filler neck.

According to the present invention, a push-on cap is provided for engaging a filler neck. The cap includes means for closing the mouth of the filler neck. This closing means includes a housing and an end member which is coupled to the housing while being axially movable relative to the housing. The cap further includes means for gripping the filler neck in response to the sliding axially inward movement between a filler neck-engaging position and a filler neck-disengaging position.
