Provided is an apparatus and method for protecting against unsafe electric current conditions. A protections circuit may be used in a device, such as an electric grill, that has one or more electric loads, such as heating elements. The protection circuit may protect against various failure scenarios, including, without limitation, instances of ground fault, over current, driver failure, and failure of a microprocessor. In response to a failure, the protection circuit may trip a latch relay or disable a triac driver to stop current from flowing.

Provided is an apparatus and method for a digital power supply that can provide independent power control, and control variable power, for two or more electrical loads. Disclosed embodiments may reduce the magnitude of harmonic currents and/or flicker introduced into a power system. Embodiments include a microprocessor that delivers power to electric loads using phase-controlled AC current. The microprocessor may calculate a power array corresponding to a requested power for each electric load. Logic is provided for populating the power army in a pattern that reduces the magnitude of harmonic currents and flicker.

An example method includes accessing a selected operating mode for a heating element of the electric grill using at least one user input device of the electric grill, the heating element connected to a voltage line and a neutral line; measuring, using a temperature probe, a temperature of the heating element; estimating an ambient temperature at a location within a cook box of the electric grill spaced apart from the heating element, the estimation of the ambient temperature based on the measured temperature of the heating element; and using the estimated ambient temperature to determine when a target temperature corresponding to the selected operating mode is reached.

Some embodiments provide an illumination system with an outer housing including a base, a central housing pivotably coupled to the base including a fluid inlet, and an upper housing including a fluid outlet. The inner housing defines a chamber and is coupled to the base, and includes a fluid aperture adjacent to the base, and a fluid aperture adjacent to the upper housing and a viewing aperture. The chamber houses an evaporator system not visible through the outer housing, and an illumination device. Some embodiments include a repellent system with a base including a fluid inlet pivotably coupled to a main housing enclosing an inner region, and including an upper portion with at least one fluid outlet. In some embodiments, an evaporator system within the inner region is not visible through the main housing. Some embodiments include an evaporator assembly that includes a lockable evaporator support to render the system non-refillable.

Embodiments of the invention provide an illumination system including an outer housing. The outer housing can include at least one inlet and at least one outlet. An inner housing can be coupled to the outer housing and can include fluid apertures and a chamber. An evaporator system can be disposed within the chamber so that the evaporator system is not visible from a position outside of the outer housing. The illumination system can also include an illumination device coupled to the outer housing.

A superconducting voltage stabilizer is set forth which utilizes a superconducting coil for storing and releasing electrical energy. A first semiconductor switch is disposed to conduct current from the superconducting coil therethrough when the superconducting coil is to be charged or is to store energy and to inhibit current flow therethrough when the superconducting coil is to release energy. A crowbar circuit including a second semiconductor switch and a dump load are also employed. A third semiconductor switch is connected in parallel with the dump load and is disposed in series between the superconducting coil and the crowbar circuit. Quench detection and control circuits are employed for detecting a quench condition of the superconducting coil. In response to the occurrence of a quench condition, the quench detection and control circuits control the first and third semiconductor switches to go to an open condition, and the second semiconductor switch to go to a closed condition thereby to dissipate energy from the superconducting coil into the dump load. As a further enhancement to the reliability of the foregoing system, fail detection circuits are employed for detecting a fail condition of one or more of the first, second, or third semiconductor switches.
