In general, embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to techniques for quickly displaying metadata of media objects (e.g., music files) using gestures. In one example a method includes, generating for display a browsing view including browsing content, wherein the browsing content includes one or more media objects; receiving user input including one or more gestures to select at least one media object; determining an input operation that selects a quantity of metadata associated with the selected media object, wherein the metadata includes information that describes the selected media object, and wherein the quantity of the metadata is proportional to a magnitude of the one or more gestures to select the media object; and generating for display in an expanded view, the metadata associated with the at least one selected media object, wherein the expanded view is generated for display without changing the browsing content.

Gesture-based metadata display

In general, embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to techniques for quickly displaying metadata of media objects (e.g., music files) using gestures. In one example a method includes, generating for display a browsing view including browsing content, wherein the browsing content includes one or more media objects; receiving user input including one or more gestures to select at least one media object; determining an input operation that selects a quantity of metadata associated with the selected media object, wherein the metadata includes information that describes the selected media object, and wherein the quantity of the metadata is proportional to a detected property of the one or more gestures to select the media object; and generating for display in an expanded view, the metadata associated with the at least one selected media object.

An interactive television system displays a television program having an associated channel. The system also displays an interactive television mode indicator if the displayed television program supports an interactive television mode. The interactive television mode is activated in response to a request from a viewer of the television program to activate the interactive television mode. The system updates a channel status list to indicate that the television program is being viewed in the interactive television mode. The system is also able to handle requests for activating an online television mode. When changing channels, the channel status list is used to restore a previously activated interactive television mode or online television mode for a particular television channel. Two different indicators may be displayed to indicate whether the television program supports an interactive television mode and/or an online television mode.

User interface for interactive television systems

The present invention provides systems and methods for flexible locking and unlocking programming content. Programming content and the content of the programming content is often described by electronic program guide (EPG) data or guide data. Using the guide data, a user is able to create, alter and unlock locks on the programming content. Locking and unlocking the programming content can be based on characteristics of the programming content such as the duration of the programming content, start times of the programming content, end times of the programming content, content descriptors and ratings of the programming content and the like. The ability to create and unlock locks is flexible and can be directed specifically to particular programs within a channel or to specific channels. The ability to create and unlock locks can further be based on user profiles such that the programming content provided to particular users is determined by the user's profile. The ability to alter locks on programming content enable a user to determine the programming content that will be accessible in a highly configurable manner.
