Systems and methods for monitoring the health of a vehicle battery. A method includes determining an initial amp-hour value for a vehicle battery of a vehicle. The method also includes measuring a net integrated amp-hour value added into the vehicle battery during a first time period. The method further includes determining that the initial amp-hour value plus the net integrated amp-hour value is greater than a threshold percentage of a rated capacity of the vehicle battery. And the method still further includes responsively providing an alert to a driver.

Methods and systems for vehicle battery cell failure detection and overcharge protection

A vehicle includes first loads, a power source, and a processor coupled to the power source. Each of the first loads is configured to generate a fault signal indicative of an occurrence of an action performed by said first load to mitigate a voltage transient event. The processor is configured to, in response to a second different load being electrically coupled to the power source: control a voltage available within the power source based on calibration parameters; and in response to receiving the fault signal, adjust at least one of the calibration parameters.

Method and apparatus are disclosed for detecting and mitigating vehicle battery gas emission into the vehicle cabin. An example vehicle includes a battery, a vent tube coupled to the battery for venting gas outside a vehicle cabin, a gas flow sensor for determining a measured flow rate at an end of the vent tube opposite the battery, and a processor. The processor is configured for determining an expected flow rate range based on a battery characteristic, and responsive to determining that the measured flow rate is outside the expected flow rate range, initiating a protective action.

Systems and methods for vehicle battery leak detection and mitigation

A system using a computer to be configured to perform particular actions by virtue of having software, firmware, hardware, or a combination installed. One aspect includes a system, programmed to receive a fault signal from an auxiliary battery sensor. The system also determines if a low voltage set point is greater than the main battery voltage, and sends an open switch signal to a battery isolation switch if the low voltage set point is greater than the main battery voltage value. The system will send an auxiliary set point signal to an auxiliary battery charger to maintain a low voltage. The system will receive a current signal from an auxiliary battery sensor to indicate an auxiliary battery current value. The system also determines if the auxiliary battery current is above a maximum current value, and send a disable auxiliary battery maintenance signal to the auxiliary battery charger.

System and method of maintaining high voltage battery charging with detected auxiliary battery fault

This disclosure generally relates to a system, apparatus, and method for diagnosing a vehicle battery for further charging purposes. A battery diagnostic tool is provided to receive temperature information on the vehicle battery during a vehicle battery charging operation. The temperature information is referenced to generate a temperature gradient that will be further referenced to identify temperature changes to the vehicle battery over a period of time.
