A trusted co-server, and a method of using a trusted co-server, for a service provider. The co-server executes a program such that: for multiple parties P&#x2013;P(where Pis said co-server), each party Pmay (optionally) provide input I, and then said co-server carries out N functions: F(i. . . I) describes what the co-server returns to party P. The preferred embodiment of the invention raises the trust level of the computation and data storage at the server. For instance, this invention may be witness to authenticity of certain data coming back to the client. This data can include assertions from the trusted co-server about the server content and configuration. The invention, also, can provide privacy of data going back to the server, by keeping it encrypted between the client and the co-server, and then re-encrypting it before inserting it into the server. With this invention, the user can trust the integrity of the computation occurring at the co-server&#x2014;even if the server operator might be motivated to subvert it. The co-server also provides a trusted haven for computation relevant to third parties who may also have an interest in the client-server interaction.

Used trusted co-servers to enhance security of web interaction

Information including images of the parent and child are stored in an integrated circuit device in a child's watch or bracelet. The device contains write only once, non-volatile, storage and contacts for coupling the device to data entry and reader stations. At the time of entry into a protected facility, information identifying the child and guardian, along with digitized photos of the child and the guardian, are stored in the non-volatile storage at an entry station. Once the identification information is written into the device at the entry station, the child's watch or bracelet is attached with a tamper proof seal to the child in such a way that it cannot be easily removed by the child. If, while in the protected premises, the child is lost, found and taken to a security station, the watch is removed from the child and placed in the reader at that station and the information retrieved. This information is used to comfort the child by name, to contact the parents at their hotel and to verify the parents identities through their photographs when they come to pick up the child.

A wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) unit (12) includes a plurality of Input/Output cards (IOCs 14). Each IOC is bidirectionally coupled to I/O specific media (fiber or copper) and to two coaxial cables. Also bidirectionally coupled to the coaxial cables are a plurality of Laser/Receiver Cards (LRC 20). The interface between the IOCs and the LRCs is an Emitter Coupled Logic (ECL) electrical interface that is conveyed over the coaxial cables. Each LRC is bidirectionally coupled by two single mode fibers to an optical multiplexer and demultiplexer, embodied within a grating (24). An input/output port of the grating is coupled to a fiber link (28) that enables bidirectional, full duplex data communications with a second WDM. Each WDM also includes a Diagnostic Processor Card (DPC 28) that receives status signals from the IOCs and LRCs, that forwards the status signals on to an external processor, and which generates control information for the IOCs and LRCs. Each IOC is associated with one of a plurality of communications channels and includes an I/O specific media connector (30) that is coupled to an appropriate transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx). The I/O specific media connector, Tx and Rx are constructed and operated in accordance with the specific data stream type that is input to and output from the associated channel of the WDM. By example, a first data stream may be conveyed through an optical (fiber) conductor in accordance with an ESCON protocol at 200 Mb/s, and a second data stream may be conveyed through an electrical (copper) conductor in accordance with an ECL non-specific protocol at up to 622 MB/s.
