In one aspect of the invention, a high impact resistant tool includes a superhard material bonded to a cemented metal carbide substrate at a non-planar interface. The superhard material has a substantially pointed geometry with a sharp apex having a radius of curvature of 0.050 to 0.125 inches. The superhard material also has a thickness of 0.100 to 0.500 inches thickness from the apex to a central region of the cemented metal carbide substrate.

In one aspect of the present invention, a tool has a wear-resistant steel base comprising a shank suitable for attachment to a driving mechanism. A planar end of a cemented metal carbide segment brazed to an interfacial surface of the base axially opposed to the shank. At least one interruption is formed in the interfacial surface.

In one aspect of the invention, a system for exchanging a milling chamber comprises a vehicle comprising a milling chamber supported by the underside of the vehicle. The underside comprises a track that interfaces with a guide of the milling chamber. The track and guide are configured to accommodate lateral movement of the milling chamber with respect to a length of the vehicle.

In one aspect of the present invention, a pick assembly is configured that comprises a pick shank configured to be press fit directly within a bore of a block. The pick shank comprises an inside and outside surface. The pick comprises a pick head opposite the shank. The shank comprises at least one longitudinal recess extending towards the pick head along the shank from a distal end of the shank. The recess allows the shank to resiliently collapse upon insertion into the bore while maintaining a press fit between the bore and the shank.

In one aspect of the present invention, a tool assembly comprises a rotary portion and a stationary portion. The rotary portion comprises a bolster bonded to a diamond symmetric, substantially conically shaped tip. The stationary portion comprises a block mounted to a driving mechanism. A compressible element is disposed intermediate and in mechanical contact with both the rotary and stationary portions. The compressible element is compressed sufficiently to restrict free rotation during a degradation operation.

A degradation assembly comprises a rotary portion and a stationary portion. The rotary portion includes a cemented metal bolster bonded to a tip. The tip comprises a symmetric, substantially conically shaped tip formed of diamond and a cemented metal carbide substrate. The stationary portion comprises a holder configured to be coupled to a block mounted to a driving mechanism. A compressible element is disposed intermediate, or between, and in mechanical contact with both the rotary portion and the stationary portion.

In one aspect of the invention, a pick assembly comprises a pick shank press fitted within a bore of a pick holder. The pick comprises a pick head opposite the shank. The shank also comprises at least one longitudinal slot extending towards the pick head along the shank from a distal end of the shank. The slot allows the shank to resiliently collapse upon insertion into the bore while still allowing the shank to maintain a press fit while within the bore.

A high impact resistant tool comprises a steel shank. The steel shank has a hollow portion, and first and second ends. The shank is adapted for insertion into a holder and connection to a driving mechanism. A carbide cap is joined at a brazed joint to the first end of the shank.

In one aspect of the invention, an attack tool is disclosed which comprises a wear-resistant base suitable for attachment to a driving mechanism. The wear-resistant base has a shank. A cemented metal carbide segment is bonded to the base and the shank has a wear-resistant surface. The wear-resistant surface has a hardness greater than 60 HRc and/or is work hardened.

In one aspect of the present invention, a degradation assembly has a holder comprising a first end and a second end and a shank with a longitudinal central bore having an opening at an end proximate the second end. The shank portion of the holder has an inside diameter of the bore and an outside diameter wherein either the inner diameter or the outer diameter comprise at least one recess disposed therein which comprises a depth of less than the distance between the inner diameter and the outer diameters.

In one aspect of the invention, a holder assembly comprises a connection block having a block bore extending from a first opening proximate a first end of the assembly to a second opening proximate a second end of the assembly. The block is adapted for connection to a driving mechanism. An extension element is disposed in the block bore and protrudes from the first opening of the block bore. The extension element comprises a central extension bore having a longitudinal length. An attachment mechanism is disposed within the central extension bore of the extension element and is disposed proximate the second end of the assembly.

In one aspect of the present invention, a high impact resistant tool has a superhard material bonded to a cemented metal carbide substrate at a non-planar interface. The cemented metal carbide substrate is bonded to a front end of a cemented metal carbide segment. A stem formed in the base end of the carbide segment opposite the front end is press fit into a bore of a steel body. The steel body is rotationally fixed to a drum adapted to rotate about its axis.
