Systems and methods are disclosed in accordance with some embodiments for integrating an infrared camera system into a vehicle's lighting component. For example in accordance with an embodiment, a lighting component for a vehicle includes a housing; an infrared camera disposed within the housing; a light source disposed within the housing and disposed at least partially around the infrared camera; and a lens coupled to the housing and adapted to allow infrared radiation to pass through and be received by the infrared camera and to allow light provided by the light source to be transmitted through the lens. Furthermore, one or more infrared cameras may be integrated into a vehicle to provide various capabilities, such as for example stereoscopic infrared imaging, multi-spectral stereoscopic imaging (e.g., using infrared and visible wavelengths or various infrared wavelengths for multi-color infrared imaging), and/or provide various fields of view (e.g., foveal imaging).

Infrared camera vehicle integration systems and methods

Systems and methods are disclosed for providing foveal images. For example, high and low resolution images can be combined to provide foveal images. Parameters other than resolution can vary between the larger and smaller images of the foveal image. Real, artificial, 2D and 3D images can be used in any desired combination to form foveal images. The use of such foveal images can substantially enhance the ability of viewers to accurately and reliably interpret the content of images and provide reduce bandwidth for image transmission.

Foveal camera systems and methods

Systems and methods provide high and low resolution cameras. For example, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a camera system provides wide and narrow fields of view simultaneously. An operator may select different views to be provided by the camera system (e.g., a wide field of view, a narrow field of view, or the combination of the wide and narrow field of views).

Systems and methods are disclosed herein to provide improved cameras and camera systems. For example, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a networkable camera system is disclosed that is able to provide up to a 360&#xb0; field of view and is operable during day and night conditions by utilizing thermal imagers.
