A system for enhancing an energy efficiency of a mobile network includes a digital twin connected to the mobile network. The digital twin is programmed to: receive, from the mobile network, real-time network traffic data and base station data of base stations operating in the mobile network; generate a first prediction of network traffic at a first time-scale based on the real-time network traffic data; generate a second prediction of network traffic at a second time-scale based on the real-time network traffic data and the base station data; and generate a first power consumption prediction for the mobile network based on the first prediction, the second prediction, and a topology of the mobile network, and the digital twin emulates at least a portion of the mobile network.

Methods and systems for low complexity interference cancellation in multichannel optical transmission. Local or self-iteration is performed one or more times between an expected propagation decision feedback equalizer and a soft demapper. Following local iteration, a soft decision forward error correction decoder determines bit log-likelihood ratios, which are fed back to the expected propagation decision feedback equalizer and soft demapper for further self-iteration. Global iteration involving the decoder can also be performed one or more times before a bitstream is decoded.

System and method for interference cancellation in optical transmission

A receiver architecture is described for phase noise compensation in the presence of inter-channel interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI), particularly for time-frequency packing (TFP) transmissions. The receiver includes a coarse phase noise (PN) estimator, a PN compensation module, an ICI cancellation module, an ISI compensation module, a FEC decoder, and an iterative PN estimator. The iterative PN estimator receives log likelihood ratio (LLR) information from the decoder and provides an iterative PN estimation to the PN compensation module. The decoder also provides LLR to the ISI compensation module, and to at least one other receiver for another subchannel that is immediately adjacent in frequency. The ICI cancellation module receives decoder output from at least one adjacent subchannel, which the ICI cancellation module uses to provide a ICI-cancelled signal.

Systems and methods for phase noise mitigation in optical superchannels

The disclosed apparatuses and methods are directed to embedding of virtual links in an optical network. The method comprises: receiving an adaptation request for a virtual link within a virtual network embedded on an optical substrate network; generating a plurality of candidate embeddings based on a topology of the substrate network and a current embedding of the virtual link, each candidate embedding satisfying the adaptation request; determining a total cost of each candidate embedding based on a disruption cost of the candidate embedding; and selecting, as a new embedding, a candidate embedding from the plurality of candidate embeddings in accordance with the determined total cost of the selected candidate embedding.

Method and system for latency-aware embedding of a virtual network onto a substrate optical network

Some aspects and embodiments of the present invention provide effective mechanisms for provisioning virtual networks on communication networks. In particular some aspects and embodiments provide an effective mechanism for embedding a virtual network into a multi-layered substrate network which utilizes a different communication technology at each layer. One such example is an IP network overlaid over an optical network, such as an OTN network. Embodiments jointly determine the assignment of virtual nodes and virtual links. Assigning the nodes and links together can provide for a more optimal solution than assigning the nodes and the links separately. Some embodiments generate a collapsed graph which includes the optical network and the IP network in a single layer. Accordingly some embodiments jointly determine the assignment of virtual nodes and virtual links within such a collapsed graph, which can provide more optimal assignments than considering assignments within each layer separately. In some embodiments, generating a collapsed graph includes allocating residual capacity to each link of the collapsed graph; and allocating a cost for each link of the collapsed graph. In some embodiments, allocating a cost for each link includes allocating a higher cost to optical links than to IP links. In some cases, allocating the higher costs can discourage the creation of new links unless they are needed or are beneficial (e.g. creating new links improves the overall cost/efficiency). Some embodiments utilize a heuristic method for solving an optimization function for the placement of virtual nodes and links.

Multi-layer virtual network embedding

The disclosed structures and methods are directed to a method for compensation of linear and nonlinear effects in optical fiber of a coherent optical signal transmitted through an optical link. The method comprises receiving a coherent optical signal having carriers; determining values of intensity vectors for each carrier; determining values of filtered intensity vectors for each carrier by filtering the values of the intensity vectors at frequencies lower than a cut-off frequency of a filter; determining nonlinear compensation coefficients for each carrier based on the filtered intensity vectors; and modifying the digital coherent optical signal based on the nonlinear compensation coefficients.

Method and apparatus for nonlinear compensation in coherent optical links

Network Virtualization can be used to map a virtual network (VN) on a substrate network (SN) while accounting for possible substrate failures, known as the Survivable Virtual Network Embedding (SVNE) problem. The VN can be equipped with sufficient spare backup capacity to sustain the Quality of Service during substrate failures, and the resulting VN may be equipped accordingly. The present application discloses jointly optimizing spare backup capacity allocation and embedding a VN to provide full bandwidth in the presence of a single substrate link failure. A solution may be formulated as a Quadratic Integer Program that can be further transformed into an Integer Linear Program, or as a heuristic.

Method and system for reliability-aware embedding of a virtual network onto an elastic optical network

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed in part to a receiver DSP unit including an equalization module. The equalization module includes a trellis-based equalization module that may utilize multiple trellis-based processors (TBP), which can each be individually adaptively configured for performing a trellis-based equalization. The design of the TBPs allows them to be configured for compensating a residual Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) as well as compensating a residual Phase Noise (PN). ISI is an example of an additive impairment and PN is an example of a multiplicative impairment that communication systems, particularly high speed transmission systems such as coherent optical systems, can suffer from.

Trellis based processing for robust digital multiband transmission

A method for failure recovery in a virtual network environment including a virtual network having virtual nodes and virtual links mapped onto substrate nodes and substrate paths, respectively, of a substrate network, the method comprising, in response to an indication of failure of at least one substrate node in the substrate network: re-mapping a virtual node mapped to a failed substrate node to a selected substrate node other than the failed substrate node; and re-mapping a virtual link mapped to a substrate path that involves the failed substrate node to a substrate path that does not involve the failed substrate node; wherein the re-mapping is carried out to achieve at least one re-mapping objective.

An interference mitigation apparatus, comprising: an adaptive feedforward filtering stage and an adaptive feedback filtering stage configured to produce a plurality of output signals from a plurality of frequency downconverted signals, the output signals for being provided to a data decoding stage; a plurality of phase rotators configured to apply phase rotation to the frequency downconverted signals prior to processing by the adaptive feedforward filtering stage and the adaptive feedback filtering stage; and an adaptive controller configured for varying an amount of the phase rotation applied by the phase rotators to the frequency downconverted signals based at least in part on symbol decisions made on the output signals. There may be second phase rotators configured to apply phase rotation after the adaptive feedforward filtering stage so as to produce the output signals for forwarding to the data decoding stage.

Systems and methods are disclosed that attempt to increase spectral efficiency by using Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) transmission. In one embodiment, a method at a transmitter includes partitioning bits into K bit streams, obtaining K power scaled symbol streams, combining the K power scaled symbol streams to obtain a stream of transmission symbols, and transmitting the stream of transmission symbols using FTN signaling. At the receiver, the received symbols are partitioned into K symbol streams, and demodulation and decoding is performed by: (i) demodulating and decoding the Ksymbol stream of the K symbol streams to obtain a Kset of bits; (ii) mapping the Kset of bits to a Kset of symbols; and (iii) for each one of k=K&#x2212;1, . . . , 1: demodulating and decoding a ksymbol stream of the K symbol streams to obtain a kset of bits. The demodulating and decoding includes performing interference cancellation.

System and method for Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) transmission

Systems and methods of precoded faster than Nyquist (FTN) signalling are provided. In the transmitter, Tomlinson-Harashima Preceding (THP) is applied to produce precoded symbols. The THP is based on inter-symbol interference (ISI) due to using faster than Nyquist (FTN) signalling. An inverse modulo operation is not performed in the receiver. Instead, in the receiver, FTN processing is performed based on a matched filter output by determining log a-posteriori probability ratio LAPPR values computed for an nbit bof a kreceived symbol and pre-computed a-priori probabilities of an extended constellation for a given pulse shape h(t) and FTN acceleration factor combination.
