A battery pack is capable of sensing the generation of a gas using Mie scattering, whereby it is possible to rapidly detect abnormality of the battery pack. In addition, whether a battery is abnormal is determined in consideration of a gas generation time as well as the generation of the gas, whereby it is possible to rapidly detect whether the battery is abnormal.

A secondary battery having an electrode assembly in which a positive electrode, a separator, and a negative electrode are alternately stacked, and a can configured to accommodate the electrode assembly is provided. The negative electrode is disposed on an end of the electrode assembly in a direction of one side of the electrode assembly so that a negative electrode non-coating portion protrudes more than the separator with respect to a direction of a winding center axis of the electrode assembly. The positive electrode is disposed on an end of the electrode assembly in a direction of the other side of the electrode assembly so that a positive electrode non-coating portion protrudes more than the separator with respect to the direction of the winding center axis of the electrode assembly. The can includes a first can contacting the positive electrode and a second can contacting the negative electrode.

Secondary battery

A secondary battery comprises an electrode assembly including a first electrode, a separator, and a second electrode alternately stacked and wound about a central axis. A first non-coating portion that is not coated with an electrode active material protrudes farther than the separator in a first direction along the central axis and a second non-coating portion that is not coated with the electrode active material protrudes farther than the separator in a second, opposite direction along the central axis. The first non-coating portion contacts a first connection part disposed on an end of a first can of the battery, and the second non-coating portion contacts a second connection part disposed on an end of a second can. At least one of the first connection part or the second connection part comprises a protrusion having a shape protruding towards the electrode assembly.

The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for diagnosing low voltage of a secondary battery cell. The method for diagnosing low voltage of a secondary battery cell according to an embodiment of the present invention includes pre-aging a battery cell, charging the battery cell according to a preset charging condition, measuring a parameter for determining low voltage failure of the battery cell, comparing the measured parameter with a reference parameter, and performing formation when the battery cell is determined to be normal.

Method and apparatus for diagnosing low voltage of secondary battery cell

A secondary battery comprises an electrode assembly, a can, and an insulator. The electrode assembly includes a first electrode, a separator, and a second electrode alternately stacked and wound. The can has an accommodation part accommodating the electrode assembly therein, and the can comprises a first can and a second can having cylindrical shapes open in a direction facing each other. The insulator insulates an overlapping portion between the first can and the second can. The first can is electrically connected to the first electrode, and the second can is electrically connected to the second electrode. The insulator has a short-circuit induction through-part defined by a through-hole or a cutoff line, such that a short circuit occurs between the first can and the second can through the short-circuit induction through-part when it is deformed in shape as heat or a pressure is applied to contract or expand the insulator.

A secondary battery according to the present invention comprises: an electrode assembly in which a first electrode, a separator, and a second electrode are alternately stacked and wound together; a can provided with an accommodation part that accommodates the electrode assembly therein, the can comprising a first can and a second can, which have cylindrical shapes opened in a direction facing each other; and an insulator configured to insulate an overlapping portion between the first can and the second can. The first can forms a first electrode terminal that directly contacts an end of the first electrode, and the second can forms a second electrode terminal that directly contacts an end of the second electrode.

Device and method for predicting state-of-health of battery

Disclosed are a separator for a battery, which is coated with a gel polymer over 40-60% of total separator area, and a rechargeable lithium battery using the separator. The separator partially coated with a gel polymer reduces the battery resistance so that the battery power can be improved. Additionally, the separator increases electrolyte impregnation rate and provides uniform electrolyte impregnation, thereby improving the life, capacity and high-rate discharge property of a battery. Further, the separator permits electrode reactions to be performed uniformly, thereby preventing lithium precipitation and improving the battery safety.

The lead member is at least partially bent to connect two adjacent cells and form a single series circuit through electrode terminals of the cells. It is possible to easily and rapidly fabricating a battery module comprising a predetermined number of cells to meet various power demands for industrial instrument or electric cars by connecting the cells in series using detachable lead members.

The secondary lithium battery module comprising a plurality of secondary lithium unit-batteries including anode and cathode terminals having a hole, which terminals are protruded in one direction in parallel to each other and alternately aligned; a receiving module having a plurality of non-metallic receiving unit-modules, each unit-module having recesses for receiving the anode and cathode terminals of the secondary lithium unit-batteries therein, each recess having a fixing hole; a metal block having a fixing hole and a contact plate and aligned in the recesses of the receiving unit-modules such that the metal block makes contact with at least one of the anode and cathode terminals of the secondary lithium unit-batteries accommodated in the recesses of the receiving unit-modules; a circuit board having a shape corresponding to a shape of the receiving module and aligned on an upper surface of the receiving module, the circuit board having recesses corresponding to the recesses of the receiving module and copper wirings formed at lateral portions of the recesses in order to make contact with the contact plate of the metal block; and a coupling member inserted into the recesses of the receiving module, the anode and cathode terminals of the secondary lithium unit-batteries accommodated in the recesses, and the fixing hole of the metal block making contact with at least one of the anode and cathode terminals so as to fixedly assemble the receiving module, secondary lithium unit-batteries and the metal block with each other.

Secondary lithium battery module

Disclosed is a switching circuit for balancing battery cells. The switching circuit includes plural pairs of switching means, each pair of which are connected to each other in parallel and interrupt a flow of electric current in a bi-direction in order to reduce the internal voltage applied to the switching means. According to the present invention, since the switching elements of low internal voltage can be used for the switching circuit, it is possible to constitute the switching circuit for cell balancing without use of switching elements of high internal voltage and to reduce the number of MOSFETs, thereby making it possible to design the switching circuit effectively. Since the MOSFETs having the low internal voltage and low resistance are used for the switching circuit, it is possible to reduce a loss of the electric current due to the resistance during the cell balancing, thereby improving the balancing efficiency and reducing heat generation.
