A method for manufacturing a custom cranial remodeling device of a type comprising plastic material is provided. The method includes the steps of: providing a first database of three-dimensional digital surface images of trim lines for cranial remodeling devices of a first type; providing a second database of three-dimensional digital surface images of trim lines for cranial remodeling devices of a second type; providing a first program for creating trim lines for a cranial remodeling device of the first type, the first program utilizing the first database; providing a second program for creating trim lines for a cranial remodeling device of the second type, the second program utilizing the second database; generating a three-dimensional model of a desired head shape; forming the plastic material onto the model; and selecting one of the first or the second programs to generate trim lines for the cranial remodeling device.

Method and apparatus for automatically generating trim lines for cranial remodeling devices

A method for producing a cranial remodeling device to correct for cranial shape abnormalities is described. One method comprises the steps of: providing cranial remodeling device trim line information; forming device material onto a three-dimensional model of a desired head shape; providing a machine responsive to said trim line information to move a spindle in a plurality of axes over the device material; providing a marking tool carried by the spindle; and operating the machine in response to the trim line information such that the machine moves the marking tool into surface engagement with the device material such that trim lines for the cranial remodeling device are marked onto the device material.

Method for marking a three-dimensional surface

A tool for depositing material onto a three-dimensional surface comprises a first tubular member comprising a first guide surface and a second guide surface. The tool further comprises a second tubular member comprising a first guide surface engaging the first tubular member first surface and comprising a second guide surface engaging the first tubular member second surface. A first resilient member is disposed to urge the second tubular member in a first axial direction relative to the first tubular member. A tubular material holder is disposed axially within the second tubular member. A second resilient member is disposed in the tool to urge the holder in a second axial direction opposite to said first axial direction.

A method for processing digital image representations representative of a subject head shape comprises: providing a database library of a first plurality of first digital image representations of subject head shapes captured directly from corresponding subjects, and a second plurality of second digital image representations of corresponding modified head shapes. The method includes proving a support vector machine and utilizing the database library plurality of said first and second digital image representation to train the support vector machine to operate on new digital image representations. The method further includes receiving a new digital image representation of a subject head shape captured directly from a new subject; and operating the support vector machine such that the support vector machine operates on the new first digital image representation to generate a corresponding new second digital image representation that replicates a corresponding modified head shape.

A method for processing a three-dimensional image file captured directly from a live subject, the file including the cranium of the subject, comprises: providing a vertex point cloud for the three-dimensional image file; determining a median point for the vertex point cloud; determining a point on the cranium; and utilizing the median point and the cranium point to define a z-axis for the three-dimensional image file.

Apparatus to capture three-dimensional images of a subject selected from the group consisting of an animate object, an inanimate object, a human, an animal, a biological mass or a portion of a subject comprises a plurality of image capturing device modules, each module comprises a plurality of image-capturing devices; and a rigid support structure supporting the plurality of image capturing device modules to define a space wherein said subject may be disposed. The rigid support structure supports all of the modules in predetermined relationship to each other and to the space. The rigid support structure further supports the modules in positions such that each module is positioned to capture a group of first images of a corresponding surface portion of the subject disposed within the space such that each group of first images captured by the corresponding module captures a substantially different surface portion of the subject disposed within the space.

Apparatus to capture three-dimensional images of a head comprises a plurality of image capturing device modules, each module comprises a plurality of image-capturing devices; and a rigid support structure supporting the plurality of image capturing device modules to define a space wherein an image of the head may be disposed. The rigid support structure supports all of the modules in predetermined relationship to each other and to the space. The rigid support structure further supports the modules in positions such that each module is positioned to capture a group of first images of a corresponding surface portion of a head disposed within the space such that each group of first images captured by the corresponding module captures a substantially different surface portion of the head disposed within the space.
