A multi channel video engine () for accepting, dividing, modifying and recombining light to project an image. A housing () encloses an optical assembly () having a dichroic mirror assembly () and a color cube (). A plurality of LCD assemblies () accept light from the dichroic mirror assembly (), modifies it, and reflects it to the color cube (). A lens assembly () is affixed to a bulkhead () of the housing () using a lens cradle () and lens retainer (). An output prism () aligns light onto a second plane () to coincide with an optical axis () of the lens assembly ().

Multi channel imaging engine apparatus

A magnetic chuck () for temporarily holding an LCD imager () to a convergence device () during an alignment or convergence operation. A substrate () of the imager () is made of a magnetically permeable material. A knob () turns an armature assembly () such that in an on positiona second magnetic flux path () is allowed to permeate the substratethereby holding the imager () to a grip faceof the magnetic chuck (). When the knob () is rotated to shunt flux through a first magnetic flux path () through a pair of steel grip shoes (), then the imager () is released form the grip face ().

Magnetic chuck for convergence apparatus

An improved imager assembly ( ) having an imager subassembly ( ) with an LCD device ( ) mounted on a substrate ( ) with a connector ribbon electrically and mechanically attached thereto. An improved mounting frame ( ) has a plurality of mounting screw holes ( ). A plurality of stress reducing recesses ( ) prevent stress from being transferred though an isolation border ( ) of the mounting frame ( ) to the LCD device ( ). An image mask ( ) is affixed to the mounting frame ( ) by an adhesive ( ) and the adhesive ( ) is further used to affix the mounting frame ( ) to the imager subassembly ( ).

A convergence device for assembly an LCD imaging device to a fixed housing . The convergence device has a frame with a plurality of retention arms protruding therefrom. Each of the retention arms has a retention barb for hooking behind a retention land on the imaging device . The imaging device has a retainer with a plurality of preload flexures for providing some outward pressure on the frame of the convergence device . After the imaging device is positioned on the fixed housing , an adhesive is applied to a housing adhesive gap and to a plurality of imager fixing adhesive gaps to hold the convergence device in place relative to the fixed housing and further to hold the imaging device in place relative to the convergence device

Mechanical convergence device

An adjustment apparatus ( ) for adjusting the field lens ( ) with respect to an LCD imager ( ). The field lens ( ) may be mounted off center and/or may be only a segment of a complete lens. Guide fingers ( ) on an assembly housing ( ) fit within guide slots ( ) of a field lens mount ( ) to prevent relative rotation thereof. The field lens ( ) is secured within the field lens mount ( ). Low stress packaging for a display device

A mechanical convergence fixture apparatus (10) having an LCD frame assembly (12) which is positioned in relation to a projector chassis (14) using an alignment assembly (12) which is positioned in relation to a projector chassis (14) using an alignment assembly (16). The LCD frame assembly (12) has a micro LCD (24) rigidly affixed thereto and a field lens (32) adjustably affixed thereto. A vacuum chuck (40) holds the LCD frame assembly (12) on the alignment assembly (16) while the LCD frame assembly (12) is positioned. A drop of adhesive (62) is then placed on each of a plurality of locating studs (18) and a like plurality of locating holes (20) to affix the LCD frame assembly (12) in position on the chassis (14). The alignment assembly (16) is then detached from the LCD frame assembly (12) to be reused.
