Precompression pump

A pump for dispensing or spraying a fluid product comprises a pump body delimiting a pump chamber in which slides a piston. The pump comprises a hollow plunger-rod having an outlet passage. The plunger-rod is coupled to the piston to actuate the piston and to enable escape of the product. The pump further comprises an aspiration chamber which communicates with the hollow plunger-rod and which is reduced in volume when the plunger-rod is depressed and increased in volume when pressure is removed from the plunger-rod. The aspiration chamber is delimited by the piston and the plunger-rod and the volume of the chamber is varied by relative sliding movement between the plunger-rod and the piston.

Device for spraying or dispensing fluid product in which product

A pushbutton for a fluid dispenser includes a chamber 39 provided with three outlet orifices 5, and at least one cylindrical cavity 24 having an axis of symmetry 2. A piston 31 secured to three outlet closures is slidably received in the cylindrical cavity, and is urged by spring 37 to cause the three closures to seat and seal against the orifices. The piston is pushed back by the pressure of the fluid substance emitted by a dispenser to open the orifices, and is extended towards the outlet orifices by a rod 32 having a degree of flexibility. The closures are constituted by three valve pins 35 secured to the rod, each having a tip 36; 36' configured to close one of the orifices.

Closable pushbutton having multiple jets

A precompression metering pump has already been mounted on a pressurized receptacle in the prior art. It serves not only to propel the contents of the receptacle for spraying purposes, but also to isolate said contents from ambient air in order to prevent it being degraded. However, in the past such a pump has been provided with a return spring capable of raising the pistons of the pump to a rest position regardless of the pressure inside the receptacle. Consequently, should a leak arise from the receptacle, there has been a danger of delivering a substance that has been degraded by contact with the atmosphere. The present invention avoids this problem by making spraying impossible should the pressure inside the receptacle fall below a predetermined pressure which is advantageously chosen to lie in the range 1 bar to 2 bars above atmospheric pressure. This is achieved by reducing the stiffness of the spring so that the pistons are raised in part only by the spring expanding and in part also by the force transmitted by the pressure that exists inside the receptacle.

Intrinsically safe metering pump for a pressurized spray head

Product admission into the working chamber 23 of a precompression pump is accelerated by providing a differential piston 4 with a bore 63 which establishes communication between the inside of a skirt 42 and a shoulder 44. A cylindrical sealing element 60 is fitted over a spindle 41 to be applied against the shoulder 44, level with two annular contacts 64, 65 between which the bore terminates. The sealing element closes the bore on discharge of the precompressed product dose. The sealing element is configured such that, particularly when the pump is idle, it is kept deformed and is therefore applied to the shoulder 44 with sufficient force to guarantee the seal of the two annular contacts 64, 65.

A spray head for use with a receptacle containing a liquid which is maintained under pressure by a propellant gas, thereby enabling a product to be packaged so that it is protected from coming into contact with the air, the spray head being of the type comprising a manually-operated precompression pump which includes a pump chamber comprising first and second cylinders (11, 15) capable of engaging telescopically, the chamber being closed by relative displacement of the cylinders, said first cylinder being integral with the pump outlet valve and being provided at one of its end with a circular sealing lip (12) capable of engaging against and of sliding along the wall of the second cylinder, which second cylinder is in communication with the inside of the receptacle, the wall being provided at at least one of its ends with relief (18) such that when the sealing lip lies over the relief and the relief causes sealing to be broken, a passage is opened suitable for passing gas at a rate of flow which is sufficient for filling the receptacle.

Manually-operated precompression type spray head

A finger-operated pump is provided with a pump chamber and a fixed supply conduit communicating with the pump chamber. A movable sealing conduit is adapted to slidably and sealingly engage the supply conduit in a telescoping relationship. A primary piston is operably disposed in the chamber and defines a discharge passage out of the pump chamber. A poppet having a primary valve means for occluding the discharge passage is biased against the primary piston by a spring. The poppet has a secondary valve means for occluding flow through the sealing conduit that engages the poppet through a lost motion arrangement which is defined in part by the spring and which permits a limited degree of relative movement between the poppet and the sealing conduit.

Atomizing pump

Some precompression pumps currently used for spraying a liquid include a non-return valve formed by a gasket (3) held captive between the base of the pump body (1) and a sleeve (2). This non-return valve determines the extent to which the pump chamber (19) is isolated from or put into communication with a supply of liquid, as a function of whether the gasket (3) bears against the base of the pump body (1) or against the sleeve (2), closing a central hole through the pump body or being held off a central hole through the sleeve. In order to make valve operation more reproducible the present valve has the following features: the base of the pump body (1) is in the form of a cup (18) of small slope; the side wall (28) of the sleeve (2) flares from the end (26) of the sleeve (2) and has a local swelling (27), with the side wall (28) being of reduced thickness on either side of the swelling (27 ); and the end (26) of the sleeve (2) includes a tongue (25) and two ribs (2b), the tongue (25) and the ribs (2b) extend from the side wall (28) of the sleeve (2) all they way to its central hole (2a), the tongue (25) is diametrically opposite the swelling (27) and it is thickest adjacent to the central hole (3a), the ribs (2b) are disposed symmetrically about the diameter passing through the swelling (27) and the tongue (25) such that each of them forms an acute angle with the diameter on either side of the swelling (27).

Non-return valve for admitting a liquid to be sprayed into a pump

A precompression metering pump of the prior art which is otherwise particularly advantageous, is nevertheless difficult to prime because of the high degree of compressibility of the air it initially contains in its pump chamber. The present invention improves this aspect of metering pump operations. It consists in providing additional resilient means (20) and at least one cylindrical part (10) level with the conventional outlet non-return valve of the pump and constituting a second outlet non-return valve. In a particular embodiment, the resilient means and the cylindrical part are received one above the other in the outlet channel (33) of the pump actuator rod (31). To do this, they bear respectively against a choking step (32) in the form of a lug and a shoulder (34) presented by said channel. In normal operation, the differential piston (4) of the pump moves out of the way so that operation takes place as in a prior art precompression metering pump. However, when priming, by pushing the actuator rod (31) fully home, as is made possible by the invention, the part (10) is moved away from the choking step (32). This improvement thus enables the air which was initially contained in the pump chamber (23) to be expelled to the atmosphere.
