The invention concerns a rotor for the pressurized, hydrodynamic purification of paper pulp from old papers in known purifying equipment comprising a cylindrical screen, characterized in that it comprises a generally cylindrical case extending along a longitudinal axis of rotation 6 and comprising a sequence of n identical elements 8 arrayed side-by-side along the longitudinal axis 6, the screen-side wall evincing a shoulder 14 on either side of which it winds spirally around the longitudinal axis over at least 360.degree., the base and the top of the shoulder subtending a very slight angular gap .OMEGA. relative to said axis in such manner that the shoulder side 14 slopes toward the screen surface, the slope angle .alpha. relative to the radial plane through the shoulder base being between 5 and 80.degree., the elements 8 being mutually shifted in the direction of rotation around the axis 6 by an angle .beta. with a magnitude of at least 360.degree./n, where n is at least 3.

A screening device is provided with a screening element having a plurality of perforations going therethrough. Each perforation has an inlet and an outlet. The screen element includes a plurality of step-type obstacle members positioned in the vicinity of the inlets of the perforations to produce turbulence in a flow of a fluid passing through the perforations. Each obstacle member has a shielding member positioned substantially above the inlet so that a gap is defined between the shielding member and the screening element. The shielding element extending over the inlet of the perforation forms an entry baffle above the outlet. The invention relates to a multiple liquid injector composed of several identical elementary injection tubes 2, disposed in a rim around a central tube. Each tube 2 has an inlet conduit 3, itself comprising a converging truncated cone 6 and a cylinder 7, followed by an aeration zone 4 comprising an aeration chamber 8 fed tangentially by a conduit 9 perpendicular to the tubes 2, a jet centering funnel 10, followed by mixing cylinder 11, and lastly a diverging outlet conduit 12.

A valve arrangement has an outflow seat section defined by at least a tubular side wall. The outflow seat section has a free end with an engaging part extending along the entire periphery of the side wall. The engaging part is adapted for close engagement with an engaging surface of a movable obturating plate. The engaging surface is substantially parallel to a plane of the engaging part and remains substantially parallel to this plane during movement of the obturating plate toward and from the free end of the outflow seat section. During operation of the valve arrangement the engaging surface of the obturating plate simultaneously engages the entire plane of the engaging part of the outflow seat section causing closing of the valve arrangement.

Aerating apparatus

The invention relates to a primary pulper turbine for processing recycled paper, of the type having the general shape of an helix. This turbine is formed of a shaft (2) carrying at least two helical disks (3, 4) coaxial to the shaft (2) and having a small pitch. These disks extend over at most 360.degree. and are spaced from each other along the shaft (2) by a distance of at least 1.5 times the helical pitch of a disk. The turbine carries on its base a set of radially extending fins (6, 7, 8), each one of which is curved into a spiral starting from the shaft (2). Preferably, the slant of the helical disks (3, 4, 5) relative to a plane perpendicular to the shaft (2) is approximately 15.degree., and the disks are angularly spaced from each other by a same angle approximately equal to 360.degree. divided by the number of disks, for providing a proper dynamic balance of the turbine. The turbine of the invention is designed so as to have a high separation power for fibers, and to separate contaminants, such as plastics, from the paper pulp, without breaking them up into small pieces. This design lends itself to the building of small efficient primary pulpers, the volume of which may be less than 5 m.sup.3, as well as of larger ones.

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for sorting out recycled paper pulp obtained from scrap material containing contaminants in the form of large pieces of foreign material such as plastics, adhesives, pieces of rope and the like. The invention avoids the need to disintegrate such large pieces of foreign material prior to their removal. The device of the invention comprises a drum (1) with an horizontal axis (2), an end wall (3) of the drum being fitted with a perforated plate (4) and an helical stirrer (5) having profiled blades rotating in a plane parallel to this plate at a short distance thereof, these blades having a transverse cross-section with a hydrodynamic profile adapted for generating a depression in front of the perforated plate, and a leading edge (6) forming a Bernouilli spiral with a constant angle of approximately 30.degree., the drum (1) comprising a pulp inlet (10) with a valve (11) located opposite the perforated plate, an auxiliary enclosure (7) for recovering accepted pulp behind the perforated plate, connected to the suction side of a pump (8), a water inlet (12) with a valve (13), a vent (16) and a large bottom opening (14) with a valve (15) for discharging the refuse after the accepted pulp has been recovered. While the above-described device is designed for batch operation, a modified embodiment is provided in which twin units of the above design are associated for continuous operation (1a and 1b, FIG. 5) controlled by a 3-way valve (24) for alternatively feeding contaminated pulp to either sorting unit. In either case, the refuse is washed clear and water is drained out of the refuse before its discharge, so that it may be readily discarded without further processing, and the stirrer permanently prevents the perforated plate from becoming plugged.

A device for cleaning and recovering paper pulp includes a tank divided into inner and outer chambers by a fixed cylindrical sieve. The inner chamber also contains a rotating drum with blades that draw acceptable pulp from the outer chamber through the sieve to the inner chamber for discharge and moves rejected material through a helical path in the outer chamber toward another discharge point. The end of the helical path is blocked to form a dead space where the rejected material is concentrated and then periodically discharged.
