A retractable landing gear is arranged so as to provide, in use, a highly inclined shock absorber while avoiding high shearing stresses on the shock absorber. The landing gear includes a pivoting panel fixed to an aircraft structure to pivot about a raising axis; a shock absorber including a strut fixed to the pivoting panel so as to pivot relative thereto about a tilt axis, and a sliding rod mounted to slide in the strut and carrying a set of wheels at its bottom end; and a coupling member connected to the pivoting plate and to the bottom end of the sliding rod. Also included is a mechanism for raising and holding the landing gear.

Raisable landing gear

A device for steering the wheels fitted to the bottom end of the leg (1) of the nose landing gear of an aircraft, the wheels being steered about the axis of the leg, the leg (1) comprising a strut (2) hinged to the structure of the aircraft, a tube (4) mounted to rotate inside the strut (2) and projecting outside the strut, a rod (5) slidably mounted inside the tube (4) and carrying the wheels at its free end, and a scissor linkage (6) for constraining the tube (4) and the rod (5) to rotate together. At least one actuator (8a, 8b) is situated in a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis of the leg (1), the end of the actuator rod (16a, 16b) being hinged to a side lug (17a, 17b) for rotating the tube (1), and the actuator cylinder being hinged to two parallel plates (7, 10) extending perpendicularly to the axis of the leg ( 1), with one (7) of the plates being fixed to the strut (2) and with the other plate (10) being rotatably mounted about the tube (4) and being prevented from rotating relative to the strut (2) by means of a dog (14) fixed to the strut.

Device for steering the nose wheel train of an aircraft landing gear

The shock absorber of the invention comprises a struct (1) in which a sliding rod (4) is mounted, with an annular chamber (17) being defined between the strut and the sliding rod. According to the invention, the shock absorber includes at least one support bearing (10) between the strut and the sliding rod in the vicinity of the opening (3) in the strut, and a sealing bearing (12) at a distance from the support bearing (10) and disposed at a level which corresponds to the top portion of the sliding rod when the shock absorber is in its extended position, with the sealing bearing (12) also having a side which is in contact with the annular chamber (17) and spporting at least two sealing rings (14) which are separted by a groove (13) which is connected to the annular chamber via a balance channel (16) capable of being closed by a cock (19).

Shock absorber with improved dynamic sealing

Landing gear comprising a pivoting strut (1) receiving the rod of a shock absorber (2) which projects downwardly from the strut and is movable in an axial direction (3) relative thereto, a rocking beam (4) mounted to tilt at the bottom end of the shock absorber rod (2) and supporting leading and trailing wheel sets (6), a torque linkage comprising a top branch (7) and a bottom branch (8) which are hinged to each other, the top branch (7) being hinged to the strut (1) and the bottom branch (8) being hinged to the rocking beam, and locking means (9, 15) for limiting a downwards pivot movement of the top branch (7) of the torque linkage while the shock absorber rod (2) is not fully extended.
