The compound 2,6-bis-(trifluoromethyl)-benzyl alcohol which is useful as an intermediate to compounds having pesticidal properties.

2,6-bis-(trifluoromethyl)-benzyl alcohol

A compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein Ar is phenyl optionally substituted with at least one member of the group consisting of halogen, methylenedioxy, phenyl, phenoxy, --CF.sub.3 and alkyl, alkoxy and alkylthio of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Z is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine, --CF.sub.3 and alkyl, alkoxy and alkylthio of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are individually alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms and the exocyclic double bonds independently have (E) or (Z) geometry having fungicidal activity and a process for their preparation.

A compound in all possible stereoisomeric forms and their mixtures of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, --CN, alkyl, alkenyl and alkynyl of up to 4 carbon atoms and aralkynyl of up to 10 carbon atoms, Y is selected from the group consisting of halogen, --CF.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 F and --CHF.sub.2 and R.sub.1 is hydrogen and R.sub.2 is halogen or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are --CF.sub.3 or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are individually halogen.

A compound in all possible stereoisomeric forms and mixtures thereof of the formula ##STR1## wherein the substituents are defined as in the specification having pesticidal properties.

Pyrethroid esters

An insecticidal composition comprising an insecticidally effective amount of (S) .alpha.-cyano-3-phenoxy-benzyl(1R, trans) 2,2-dimethyl-3-[(.DELTA.Z) 2-fluoro-3-oxo-3-methoxy-propenyl]-cyclopropane carboxylate and an inert carrier having excellent insecticidal activity and low mammal toxicity.

Novel all possible stereoisomers and mixtures thereof of vinylsulfone nor-pyrethric compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.a is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, alkenyl and alkynyl of 2 to 18 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 18 carbon atoms, cycloalkylalkyl of 4 to 18 carbon atoms and aryl of 6 to 14 carbon atoms unsubstituted or substituted with at least one functional group, n is 0, 1 or 2, R.sub.b is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, alkenyl and alkynyl of 2 to 18 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 18 carbon atoms, cycloalkylalkyl of 4 to 18 carbon atoms and aryl of 6 to 14 carbon atoms, all unsubstituted or unsubstituted with at least one functional group or R.sub.a and R.sub.b together with the C-S-C to which they are attached form ##STR2##
