A method which can be used to analyse oxidising species in a sample, including: placing the sample in contact with a first photoluminescent agent, and a second optically active agent, at least the first photoluminescent agent including nanoparticles doped with rare earth elements and being oxidisable, the luminescence of the first photoluminescent agent varying, at least at one first wavelength, with the amount of oxidising species, and the signal emitted by the second optically active agent being constant or varying, at least at one second wavelength other than the first wavelength, with the amount of oxidising species in a direction opposite to the luminescence of the first photoluminescent agent; energising the first and second agents in the sample; measuring the light intensity of the sample at least at the first and second wavelengths; and assessing the presence and/or the amount of oxidising species by interpreting the measured light intensities.

The invention relates to a method of producing a substrate which is coated with a mesoporous layer and to the use thereof in ophthalmic optics. The inventive method comprises the following steps comprising: preparing a precursor sol containing (i) a precursor agent that is selected from compounds having formula M(X)4 (I), in which X is a hydrolysable group and M represents silicon or a tetravalent metal and mixtures thereof, (ii) at least one organic solvent, (iii) at least one pore-forming agent and (iv) water; depositing a film of the precursor sol on a main surface of the substrate; optionally consolidating the mesoporous structure of the deposited film; eliminating the pore-forming agent; and recovering the substrate coated with the mesoporous layer. The method is characterized in that: (i) the pore-forming agent is eliminated at a temperature of less than or equal to 150&#xb0; C.; and (ii) the method comprises a step involving the introduction of at least one reactive agent bearing at least one hydrophobic group, before the deposition step and/or after said step.

The invention relates to a transparent substrate based on glass or one or more polymers, or a ceramic or glass substrate, or a substrate made of architectural material of the type comprising a wall render, a concrete slab or block, architectural concrete, roof tile, material of cementitious composition, terracotta, slate, stone, metal surface or a fibrous substrate, based on glass of the mineral insulation wool type, or glass reinforcement yarns. This substrate is distinguished in that it is provided, on at least part of its surface, with a coating whose mesoporous structure exhibits photocatalytic properties and comprises at least partially crystallized titanium oxide. Process for manufacturing this substrate, its application in glazing, as architectural material or as mineral insulation wool is also described.

The invention generally concerns a method involving emitting polarization light waves through an aperture with a dimension of maximum size lower than or equal to 100 nm, wherein the aperture is circumferentially bound by an opaque area that prevents the light waves from being propagated outside the aperture during use, and wherein the emitted polarization light waves (1) contact a material layer comprising a photosensitive compound whose surface is located at a distance lower than 100 nm from said aperture, and (2) induce a topographic modification of the material layer. This invention relates to a process for the preparation of lithium aluminosilicate or gamma lithium aluminate ceramics having a controlled microstructure and stoichiometry. According to this process, mixing takes place accompanied by stirring in a short chain anhydrous alcohol of an unpolymerized liquid aluminium alkoxide and optionally a silicon alkoxide with a hydrated or unhydrated lithium hydroxide, followed by the addition of water in order to hydrolyze the mixture and obtain, after drying, beta LiAlO.sub.2 powder. This powder can be directly compacted and then sintered at temperatures of 800.degree. to 1150.degree. C. without prior calcination giving a gamma lithium aluminate ceramic with a controlled stoichiometry and microstructure (grains of 0.1 to 10 .mu.m).
