A cryotherapy apparatus including a heat exchanger, a cryotherapy chamber, cryogenic nitrogen supply and exhaust conduits to and from the heat exchanger, an air return conduit to flow warmed air from the cryotherapy chamber to the heat exchanger, an air supply conduit to flow chilled air from the heat exchanger to the cryotherapy chamber, a variable speed fan to cause flow of air through a loop including the air supply and return conduits, the heat exchanger, and the cryotherapy chamber, and a controller programmed to control the flow rate of air by regulating the speed of the variable speed fan according to a treatment protocol; and a method of delivering cryotherapy according to a customized treatment protocol taking into account one or more of: a patient's treatment goals, a customization factor, a personalization factor, and an adaptation factor.

Indirectly cooled cryotherapy apparatus and method

Poultry carcasses are chilled rapidly when exposed to a flow of gaseous air at a temperature in the range from about &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. to about &#x2212;120&#xb0; C. for a period of time in the range from about 1 s to about 60 s. The flow is directed over and into the body cavity of the carcasses. The carcasses are orientated in the flow such that the sternum of each carcass faces downstream. One advantage of the process is that the number of viable microorganisms present on the carcasses is reduced significantly while avoiding freeze-damage to the carcasses.

Rapid chill process for poultry carcasses

A conical impact mill has a rotor assembly () in which impact elements () arranged in at least two axially spaced rows provide, or can be adjusted to provide, a grinding gap (a', a&#x2033;), defined between the impact elements and a right frustoconical grinding surface of the mill housing (), that is not constant in the axial and/or circumferential direction of the rotor assembly. Impact elements can be fixedly or adjustably mounted in the rotor assembly and/or the rows can be mutually adjustable axially to change the grinding gap.

Conical impact mill

A cryogenic tunnel freezer () having modular design and construction including a lower section () that can be raised and lowered relative to an upper section (), the upper and lower sections () defining a tunnel () when the lower section () is in a closed (raised) position. Product is moved through the tunnel () via a belt () formed of arrays of plastic modules () that are reinforced by metal chains () and rods (). The lower run () of the belt () rides on the floor () of the lower section () and the upper run () rides on the lower run () when the belt () is operated. The flow of cryogenic fluid through the tunnel () is aided by vaporization of a cryogenic fluid and baffles (), but no air-moving devices located within the tunnel ().

Cryogenic tunnel freezer

A method for determining the flow rate of a fluid, having a liquid fraction and a gas fraction, having the steps of: measuring the pressure and temperature of the fluid at a flow control device through which said cyrogenic fluid passes; inputting the measured pressure and Cinto an algorithm; and performing a single or multi-step iteration to determine a fluid mass flow rate of the fluid through the flow control device using the algorithm that relates the mass flow rate of the fluid to the C, and mass densities of the liquid fraction and the gas fraction of the fluid which are a function of the measured pressure, and temperature. A system is also provided.

Flow monitoring using flow control device

A method and apparatus are set forth for transferring a cryogenic fluid. A polymeric, coaxial (i.e. &ldquo;tube-in-tube&rdquo; geometry) transfer line is utilized where a first portion of the cryogenic fluid flows through the inner tube while a second portion flows through an annulus between the inner tube and outer tube which annulus is at a lower pressure than the inside tube. In one embodiment, the inner tube is substantially non-porous and the transfer line is preceded by a flow control means to distribute at least part of the first and second portions of the cryogenic fluid to the inner tube and annulus respectively. In a second embodiment, the inner tube is porous with respect to both gas permeation and liquid permeation such that both a gaseous part and a liquid part of the first portion permeates into the annulus to form at least a part of the second portion.

Apparatus and method for transferring a cryogenic fluid

Volatile compounds (&ldquo;VCs&rdquo;), especially volatile organic compounds (&ldquo;VOCs&rdquo;), are cryogenically removed from a process gas stream (p ) by cooling the gas stream in a condenser to condense the VC to form both liquid VC and VC ice and providing a treated process gas essentially freed of the VC but containing entrained VC ice particles, which are subsequently removed by passing the treated process gas through a filter downstream of the condenser to remove at least particles of a size greater than 50 &mgr;m. The condensation can be conducted in an indirect heat exchanger or by direct contact of the process gas with a liquid cryogen such as liquid nitrogen. It is preferred that the filter removes VC ice particles greater than 1 &mgr;m.
