In one embodiment, a method is provided for customization of a mobile communications device's data session retry mechanism in a wireless packet data service network. The mobile communication device requests activation of a data session with a node via the wireless network and receives a reject message via the wireless network in response to the request for activation of the data session, the reject message including a cause code. If the cause code corresponds to a no-retry behavior of the data session retry mechanism of the mobile communication device, the mobile communications device no longer requesting activation of a data session with the node.

Customization of data session retry mechanism in a wireless packet data service network

A method of selecting a cellular network includes storing a location database in a memory of a mobile device, the location database providing location data for one or more locations each identified by a unique identifier, in response to recognizing the identifier, determining a current location of the mobile device by looking up the identifier in the database, prioritizing bands based on the current location to define a band priority, and selecting the cellular network based on the band priority.

In some implementations, a method in a user equipment (UE) for dynamically managing band capacity includes communicating with a first radio access network (RAN) on a first Radio Frequency (RF) channel and a second RAN on a second RF channel, where the first RAN and the second RAN are different networks. The UE receives an indication from the first RAN (or makes a determination) to handover to a third RF channel. The UE determines that the third RF channel conflicts with the second RF channel. The UE disables an RF band including the second RF channel with the second RAN and reports updated RF Band Capabilities to one or both RANs.

A method to transfer control is presented. The method includes receiving a request to transfer control of a collaborative session from a first user equipment (UE). The method includes sending a request for the transfer of control of the collaborative session in response to the received request to a second UE, and receiving, in response to the sent request to the second UE, an indication of acceptance of the transfer of control of the collaborative session. The method includes sending a notification of status to the first UE of the control of the collaborative session in response to receiving, from the second UE, the indication of acceptance.

A method of selecting a cellular network entails determining a current location of a mobile device by obtaining location data from an application on the mobile device, prioritizing cellular network frequency bands based on the current location to define a band priority, and selecting the cellular network based on the band priority. An example method for use in mobile equipment includes: reading a mobile subscriber identity from a memory device associated with the mobile equipment; determining if part or all of the mobile subscriber identity matches a data set entry within a file associated with the mobile equipment; determining if an elementary file is on the memory device; when the elementary file is on the memory device, determining if an access point name is stored in a location identified in the elementary file; and when the access point name is stored in the location identified in the elementary file, using the access point name to connect the mobile equipment to a mobile network. A computing device may schedule transmission of software packages on a broadcast/multicast downlink channel. The schedule may also include media transmissions on the channel, and the software package transmissions may be scheduled for times when the media transmissions are using less than or equal to a threshold capacity level of the channel. A software update request may be received from a wireless computing device. Possibly in response to receiving the software update request, a particular software package related to the wireless computing device may be determined. The particular software package may be scheduled to begin transmission on the channel at a particular time. At least an identifier of the channel and the particular time may be transmitted to the wireless computing device.

Scheduling of software package transmissions on a multimedia broadcast multicast service channel

A method of selecting a cellular network entails determining a current location using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver in a mobile device, prioritizing bands based on the current location to create a set of prioritized bands, and searching the set of prioritized bands for the cellular network. This method expedites selection of the cellular network when a mobile device is powered on or when its cellular radiofrequency transceiver is activated.
