A method for using an active sonar includes an acoustic antenna exhibiting a continuous bandwidth having a spectral emission width of at least two octaves and an electronic system for generating control signals for the acoustic antenna, the method comprising: dynamically selecting a plurality of distinct sonar functioning or operating modalities chosen from escort, surveillance, pursuit, dissuasion and communication, each using a different fraction of the emission bandwidth of the acoustic antenna, referred to as a channel; and using the electronic system to generate a plurality of control signals for the acoustic antenna corresponding to the selected functioning modalities, the electronic system being suitable for allowing the sonar to function according to a plurality of independent and simultaneous operating modalities. And sonar system for implementing such a method is also provided.

Method for using an active sonar with a wide spectral emission band and sonar system

The present invention relates to systems for launching and retrieving underwater craft from a ship. It consists mainly of a handling cradle for launching and retrieving an underwater vehicle, comprising a frame forming a dorsal ridge and providing an interface between lifting means, a crane for example, and the underwater vehicle. This frame comprises: means for adjusting the overall buoyancy; means for automatically aligning the vehicle with the dorsal ridge formed by the frame; means for grasping the vehicle from the surface after the frame has been aligned with the vehicle. In a preferred embodiment, the cradle comprises an onboard video camera enabling the operator onboard the ship to ensure that the vehicle attachment and release operations are carried out correctly. The invention advantageously allows the vehicle to be launched and retrieved automatically when the vehicle is under the surface in an area where it is not subject to the effects of the swell.

System for automatically launching and retrieving an underwater drone

The present invention relates to the handling, the attaching to a drag line and the putting to sea of a submersible craft, dragged by a surface vessel. The invention includes a system for automatically attaching and handling submersible craft towed by a tow line, comprising an automatic attaching device for carrying out the mechanical attaching of the submersible craft to the drag line and the linking of the submersible craft to the structure conveying the signals and the energy in this same line. The system according to the invention also includes an automatic device for handling the submersible craft, on which device the submersible craft is positioned when it is not attached to the drag line and from which it is separated after attachment, and which makes it possible to automatically position the submersible craft with respect to the drag line in such a way that the attaching and detaching can likewise be done automatically. The invention applies to towed active sonars in which the transmission antenna is integrated into a submersible craft and the reception antenna includes a linear antenna (streamer) towed behind the submersible craft.

Device for automatically attaching and detaching a towed sonar transmitter to and from an active-sonar tow line

A device that allows control of the navigation of a towed underwater device, such as a linear acoustic antenna. The device is equipped with a pair of horizontal wings and a pair of vertical wings. These wings are kept horizontal and vertical by pendular movement of the device about the antenna on which the device is fixed. The action of the horizontal wings, which influence only immersion, and of the vertical wings, which influence only the lateral offset, are thus decoupled. The power consumption of the device is reduced, thus allowing the device to be powered by internal batteries and allowing the device to be mounted on existing antennas.
