The invention relates to a method and a device for producing an accumulator having a fixed electrolyte. The inventive method is characterized by introducing an electrolyte in a flowable form into the accumulator cell and fixing the electrolyte and forming the active mass simultaneously inside the accumulator cell. The device for carrying out the inventive method comprises a filler head (), an acid reservoir (3), a thickener reservoir (), a metering pump for the acid (), a metering pump for the thickener () and a flowmeter for the thickener () and the acid ().

Method and device for producing a maintenance-free battery having a fixed electrolyte

The invention relates to a recombiner system () for catalytically recombining hydrogen that is produced in energy accumulators or energy converters. The aim of the invention is to provide a recombiner system () which can optionally be used for energy accumulator or energy converter systems having different operating conditions and that helps to counteract functional defects. For this purpose, the recombiner system () is formed by individual recombiner elements () that can be combined with each other in a modular fashion, said recombiner elements () comprising at least one respective catalyst ().

The problem of this invention is based on specifying a process for producing an industrial electrolyte that can be designed in the form of a thixotropic gel in the cells of lead storage batteries, with which large quantities of the liquids needed to fill the lead storage batteries can be prepared and mixed to improve its industrial usability. For the technical solution to this problem, the invention proposes that in the active masses of positive and negative plates in the storage battery cells, the quantity of sulfuric acid necessary to adjust the final acid density of the industrial electrolyte for the ready-to-use storage battery be stored in the form of lead sulfate, while, independently of this, water is set to a pH value from 4.1 to 4.7 by adding an acid and is then mixed with a gel former.

Process for producing an industrial electrolyte for lead storage batteries in the form of a thixotropic gel

An oxygen electrode for alkaline galvanic cells. The electrode includes a talyst-containing carbon layer, a current collector, and a preferably foil-like separator for separating a liquid chamber from a gas chamber in such a way that the gas can pass to the carbon layer but the liquid cannot enter the gas chamber. The electrode has a structurally simple construction as a multi-layer, gas diffusion electrode, the current density of which, in the temperature range of between approximately 20.degree. and 80.degree. C., is approximately 350 mA/cm.sup.2 during operation with air, and greater than 1 A/cm.sup.2 during operation with oxygen. The current collector includes a metal grid which is at least partially embedded in a carbon layer. In the method of producing such an oxygen electrode, a catalyst salt solution is mixed with an aqueous activated carbon suspension and is deposited onto the activated carbon to form a catalyst dispersion. Subsequently, the liquid is separated off to form a catalyst composition, and the metal grid is embedded at least partially in this catalyst composition.

Method for making oxygen electrode for alkaline galvanic cells

A galvanic element, particularly a metal-air cell, comprising a consumable etal electrode of flat shape which extends into a container containing the electrolyte, a gas-diffusion electrode which can be freely flushed by gas and particularly air from the outside, being arranged at a distance from the working surface of said electrode. In order to improve the electrolyte circulation in such a system and thus promote the electrochemical conversion, the hydrogen produced upon the electrochemical conversion is collected within the container which contains the electrolyte and the pressure which builds up is utilized for the transport of the electrolyte. For this purpose, a gas-collection space is provided in the electrolyte container so that the gas pressure can act on the electrolyte and a pipe system is present through which the electrolyte which has been displaced is conducted out of the upper region of the container into the lower region of the container.

Galvanic element, particularly a metal-air cell

A battery which makes possible a long-time operation under high load. The ttery is made of a plurality of galvanic elements, especially metal-air-cells, each of which comprises a consumable metal electrode of planar shape which extends into a receptacle which is flushed with electrolyte. The sidewalls of the receptacle can be flushed free of air or oxygen. Each of the receptacles supports at least one gas diffusion electrode at a distance from the working surface of the consumable metal electrodes. In order to provide a battery which can be stored without restriction due to activation and deactivation, and which permits a rapid mechanical recharging independent of the electric circuit, a supply reservoir for the electrolyte is disposed in a housing below at least one cell unit. The supply reservoir is connected via a closure member with an electrolyte activation tank which is disposed at least partially above the working level of the electrolyte in the cells. Each cell receptacle can receive electrolyte from the supply reservoir via a pump and branch lines. The electrolyte can be circulated via this pump. By opening the closure member, the cell unit can be activated and deactivated as needed.

A galvanic element in the form of a flat, high power cell, especially a ml-air-cell, which is cooled with cooling water, and can be assembled to a battery which comprises a plurality of cells. The flat cell comprises bipolar electrodes which have a consumable metal electrode in flat form as an anode, a cathode (oxygen electrode), and a liquid electrolyte. It is an object of the present invention to be able to control the temperature, especially for cooling, of each individual electrode directly by means of a medium which is independent of the liquid electrolyte. For this purpose, the bipolar electrodes are electrically interconnected, and between them is arranged a gasket which forms a cooling chamber. As a result, the heat balance and temperature of not only the anode but also of the cathode can be controlled directly.

A lip seal of elastic material has at least one sealing lip having a knife-edge sealing ridge particularly for sealing an axially moving part of a device from a liquid space, for instance in a galvanic metal-air cell. In order to improve the sealing of the axially moving device part with respect to the liquid space and to lengthen the sealing action, a membrane-like protective lip is formed on the liquid side in front of the sealing ridge, the lip resting with areal contact against the device part which is to be sealed off. The membrane-like protective lip due to its inherent tension or initial tension applies itself with high unit surface pressure against the surface of the device part to be sealed off.

An electrochemical battery for production of high outputs and efficiencies with high current densities comprising a plurality of cells, particularly metal-air cells each comprising a consumable electrode, and an air electrode spaced from the consumable electrode with electrolyte disposed in an electrolyte space and current take-off. The consumable electrode has a rod-shape made at least partially of a dense metal, the consumable electrode having a front face constituting a sole working surface projects sealed-off into the electrolyte space. An air electrode is spaced by the smallest distance parallel to the working surface of the consumable electrode, and an adjustable mounting for one of the electrodes maintains the spacing between the electrodes constant. The cells are arranged parallel to one another and connected in series, the air electrode and the consumable electrode of each of the cells being reversed with respect to the consumable electrode and the air electrode of the adjacent cell.
