An opto-electronic module is configured to fit between anterior and posterior surfaces of a contact lens. The opto-electronics module may comprise a plurality of light sources configured to direct a plurality of light beams to a region of the retina away from the fovea and in some embodiments away from the macula. Each of the plurality of light sources may comprises an LED and one or more projection optics. Each of the projection optics can be coupled to an LED with an adhesive prior to placing the opto-electronics module on a layer of contact lens material. The opto-electronics module may comprise a flex PCB with the plurality of light sources, an antenna, a battery, a capacitor and a processor supported on the flex PCB.

Assembly process for an electronic soft contact lens designed to inhibit progression of myopia

A soft contact lens comprises a plurality of light sources coupled to a plurality of optical elements. The plurality of light sources and the plurality of optical elements are embedded in a soft contact lens material. Each of said plurality of optical elements generates an image focused in front of a peripheral retina of a wearer. In some embodiments, each of the images is focused at a distance in front of the peripheral retina at a location, and each of the images comprises a depth of focus and a spatial resolution. The depth of focus can be less than the distance, and the spatial resolution greater than a spatial resolution of the peripheral retina at the location.

Optical designs of electronic apparatus to decrease myopia progression

A device to stimulate the retina comprises one or more light sources coupled to one or more optical elements. The one or more optical elements is configured to illuminate the retina with one or more images at a location away from a fovea of a wearer. In some embodiments, each of the one or more images comprises a depth of focus and a spatial resolution. The one or more images can be formed at a distance anterior to the retina, at a distance posterior to the retina or on the retina. In some embodiments, the depth of focus is less than the distance, and the spatial resolution greater than a spatial resolution of the retina at the location.

An apparatus to treat refractive error of the eye comprises one or more optics configured to project stimuli comprising out of focus images onto the peripheral retina outside the macula. While the stimuli can be configured in many ways, in some embodiments the stimuli are arranged to decrease interference with central vison such as macular vision. The stimuli can be out of focus images may comprise an amount of defocus within a range from about 3 Diopters ('D') to about 6 D. In some embodiments, the brightness of the stimuli is greater than a brightness of background illumination by an appropriate amount such as at least 3 times the background brightness. Adjustable vision modification using various systems, devices, and processes are provided. Adjustable vision modification may include sensing ocular related physiological activities of a user and making adjustments in an ocular device or ocular system to change the vision of the user. Various sensors and sensor locations may be employed in embodiments to sense or otherwise obtain these physiological activities. Likewise, various ocular devices, ocular processes, and ocular systems may be employed for improving vision.

Electromyographic sensing and vision modification

A contact lens shaped measuring device comprises a sensor having a protrusion towards the cornea. The measuring device is flexible to a degree that it is flattened by a closing eye lid and the protrusion creates an indentation of the cornea. The force on the protrusion is measured by the sensor. Applying a constant lid acceleration/deceleration model to the movement of the lid and a mechanical model to the cornea, the tension of the cornea is determined and deduced from the force measured with the lid closed, yielding the true intraocular pressure. In an alternative, the protrusion is characterized by a discontinuity in its shape, or the sensor is subdivided, each subsensor being characterized by a protrusion of different shape. With the values obtained as extrema and at the discontinuity or with different protrusions, the tension of the cornea can be obtained by a (linear) extrapolation.

The invention relates to method for bonding at least two substrates, for example made from glass, silicon, ceramic, aluminum, or boron, by using an intermediate thin film metal layer for providing the bonding, said method comprising the following steps of: a) providing said two substrates; b) depositing said thin film metal layer on at least a part of a surface of a first substrate of the two substrates; c) bringing a surface of the second substrate into contact with said thin film metal layer on said surface of the first substrate such that a bonding between the second substrate and the thin film metal layer on the first substrate is provided; and d) at least locally strengthening the bonding between the second substrate and the thin film metal layer on the first substrate. The invention also relates to a device comprising two substrates, for example made from glass, silicon, ceramic, aluminum, or boron, and an intermediate thin film metal layer.
