An apparatus to treat refractive error of the eye comprises one or more optics configured to project stimuli comprising out of focus images onto the peripheral retina outside the macula. While the stimuli can be configured in many ways, in some embodiments the stimuli are arranged to decrease interference with central vison such as macular vision. The stimuli can be out of focus images may comprise an amount of defocus within a range from about 3 Diopters ('D') to about 6 D. In some embodiments, the brightness of the stimuli is greater than a brightness of background illumination by an appropriate amount such as at least 3 times the background brightness. In some embodiments, each of a plurality of stimuli comprises a spatial frequency distribution with an amplitude profile having spatial frequencies within a range from about range of 1×10to 2.5×10cycles per degree.

Projection of defocused images on the peripheral retina to treat refractive error

A device to stimulate the retina comprises one or more light sources coupled to one or more optical elements. The one or more optical elements is configured to illuminate the retina with one or more images at a location away from a fovea of a wearer. In some embodiments, each of the one or more images comprises a depth of focus and a spatial resolution. The one or more images can be formed at a distance anterior to the retina, at a distance posterior to the retina or on the retina. In some embodiments, the depth of focus is less than the distance, and the spatial resolution greater than a spatial resolution of the retina at the location.

Device for projecting images on the retina

A soft contact lens comprises a plurality of light sources coupled to a plurality of optical elements. The plurality of light sources and the plurality of optical elements are embedded in a soft contact lens material. Each of said plurality of optical elements generates an image focused in front of a peripheral retina of a wearer. In some embodiments, each of the images is focused at a distance in front of the peripheral retina at a location, and each of the images comprises a depth of focus and a spatial resolution. The depth of focus can be less than the distance, and the spatial resolution greater than a spatial resolution of the peripheral retina at the location.

Optical designs of electronic apparatus to decrease myopia progression

Implantable pressure sensors and implantable electronics should be packaged in hermetically sealed modules with biocompatible surfaces before being implanted. Packaging designs should be compact and cause little to no interference with the mechanical (and optical) properties or functions of the implant. For a pressure sensor in an intraocular lens, this means that the sensor and packaging should allow the lens to be folded so that it can be implanted through a small incision in the eye. An inventive implantable pressure sensor is coated with a silicone elastomer and hermetically sealed by a multilayer coating of SiOand Parylene C, which may also encapsulate other components, including a microcontroller or processor, rechargeable batteries, sensors, resistors, capacitors, wireless transceivers, and/or antennas mounted on a transparent substrate. This combination of silicone gel and multilayer coating isolates the pressure sensor from surrounding tissue while allowing the pressure sensor to measure pressure precisely and quickly.

A hearing aid system according to some examples includes a hearing aid which includes a microphone, amplifier, speaker, and a telecoil. In some examples, the hearing aid may include a battery or a capacitor for storing power wirelessly received from a distance separated wireless power transfer unit. The telecoil may be configured to receive audio signals and couple the audio signals to audio processing circuitry of the hearing aid. The telecoil may be further configured to receive power signals from the base unit and couple the power signals to power supply circuitry of the hearing aid, for example for charging the battery of the hearing aid. Examples of transmitter and receiver coils, and of distance and orientation optimization are described. Examples of wireless charging systems that may be used with hearing aids or other medical assistance devices are described.

A wearable camera systems according to examples of the present disclosure may include a camera and a mobile charging unit. The camera may include onboard power, memory and control for capturing and storing an image without being connected to the mobile charging unit and the camera body may have a width or a height that is smaller than the length of the camera body. The camera body may include a trigger for initiating image capture. The wearable camera may be attachable to an eyewear temple and the mobile charging unit is configured to recharge the wearable camera without being connected to an external power source.

Auxiliary units, in some instances implemented as a case for a wearable electronic device such as a wearable camera are described. The auxiliary units may include one or more electronic components typically included in the camera. By offloading an electronic component and the corresponding function (e.g., extended power capacity, memory capacity, wireless or other communication capabilities, etc.) to a removable auxiliary unit, the size of the wearable device can be advantageously further reduced.

Smart case for electronic wearable device

Many modern implantable ophthalmic devices include electronic components, such as electro-active cells, that can leak harmful substances into the eye and/or surrounding tissue. In the implantable ophthalmic devices disclosed herein, electronic components are hermetically sealed within cavities formed by bonding together two or more glass wafers. Bonding the glass wafers together with laser fusion bonding, pressure bonding, or anodic bonding creates a seal that leaks at a rate of less than about 5&#xd7;10Pa mswhen subjected to a helium leak test. Hermetically sealed feedthroughs formed of conductive material running through channels in the wafers provide electrical connections to components inside the sealed cavities. In some cases, the conductive material has a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) that is roughly equal to (e.g., within 10% of) the CTE of the glass wafers to minimize leakage due to thermally induced expansion and contraction of the conductive material and the glass wafer.

Hermetically sealed implantable ophthalmic devices and methods of making same

Camera systems and methods configured to receive power wirelessly are described. A wireless energy transfer system according to some examples includes a transmitter of wireless energy located within a communication device, such as a mobile phone, or attached to the communication device and a distance separated receiver located within an electronic wearable device other than the communication device, such as a wearable camera.

The invention relates to a device for the stimulation of thermal receptors in the skin of a patient by means of thermal stimuli. The device comprises a plurality of noninvasive stimulation units for irradiating the skin of the patient with electromagnetic radiation, wherein thermal stimuli are produced by absorption of the electromagnetic radiation in the skin of the patient and the wavelength range of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the stimulation units can be adjusted. The device also comprises a control unit for controlling the stimulation units.
