Weaving machine, method and selvedge forming apparatus for introducing into a shed an end (A) of a weft thread () which has been inserted into a shed, the selvedge forming apparatus () being provided with a device () for introducing the end of the inserted weft thread into a subsequent shed, wherein the selvedge forming apparatus () includes a blowing device () having at least one blowing opening () which, in use, is positioned at the level of the plane of a selvedge () of the woven fabric (), with the blowing device (), blowing essentially toward the beat-up line () in a direction opposite to the direction of fabric movement.

A valve () is described comprising: a housing () having a fluid inlet for () receiving a flow of compressed fluid and a fluid outlet (); a flow duct () movably mounted with respect to the housing, the duct () having a fluid inlet () for receiving a flow of compressed fluid and a fluid outlet (), the fluid outlet being positioned around at least a part of the circumference of the duct and being dimensioned to provide a different flow rate at different sections or positions around the circumference of the duct; the fluid outlet of the housing being alignable with a portion of the fluid outlet of the duct to provide a flow rate related to the relative position of the portion of the fluid outlet of the duct and the fluid outlet of the housing; and, a drive element () for moving, e.g. rotating, the duct with respect to the housing such that a desired portion of the fluid outlet of the duct aligns with the fluid outlet of the housing. The valve may operate as a so-called throttle valve. It is an advantage that the valve is quickly movable into a desired relative position in order to regulate fluid flow through the valve. The valve is designed to have a long operational lifetime as, even if the outer surface of the duct wears, the outlet will not substantially change in size and the throttling effect will remain substantially the same.

A thread stretching device for a weaving machine, especially an air jet weaving machine, includes a thread gripper () for gripping the weft thread () as a device for stretching a weft thread inserted into a shed. A mechanism () for deflecting the weft thread is arranged upstream of the thread gripper, relative to the weft thread transport direction.

A thread clamp for a weaving machine includes a clamp having at least two clamping parts between which a thread may be clamped and an actuator arranged to move the clamping parts between clamping and unclamped positions. The actuator is arranged to operate the clamp so that it moves at least in one direction by a negative fluid pressure. The actuator may be formed as a small piston that may be actuated both by positive pressure and negative pressure to move the clamp between clamping and unclamped positions.

Thread clamp for a weaving machine

A device for inserting weft threads in an airjet weaving machine including at least one main blower and a respective thread clamp associated with the main blower. The thread clamp is constituted of an element configured in a modular form. Such modular form enables several such elements to be assembled in a modular configuration, including one on top of another. Pneumatically actuated elements are used to engage and disengage the thread clamps whereby the thread clamps may be engaged or disengaged by pressure and vacuum supplied through a single supply conduit. A method for inserting weft threads in the shed of an airjet weaving machine includes holding each weft thread at least temporarily in a thread clamp that moves with the sley of the weaving machine and using a thread tensioner outside the shed at a location between the thread supply and the thread clamp. A further method of inserting weft threads includes supplying the main blower temporarily with a lower pressure before insertion of the weft thread by the main blower when the thread clamp holding the thread is opened.
