A system for ophthalmic imaging comprising an ophthalmic device configured to obtain stereoscopic images of an eye of a patient and to transmit the images in real-time to a display device via a network for viewing by practitioners. The ophthalmic device comprises at least an optic assembly, a processing assembly, a slit assembly, such as a slit lamp, and a positioning assembly. Control devices structured to control the ophthalmic device over the network, such as the world wide web, can be disposed at a plurality of locations, and may be remote from the ophthalmic device while providing real time control of the parameters of the ophthalmic device by the practitioner(s) associated therewith.

Numerical system control of ophthalmic visualization and image system

A method for refilling a lens of an eye or increasing the elasticity of a lens of an eye includes removing a central portion of the lens core through the eye's cornea, a capsulorhexis in the eye's lens capsule and a gullet extending at least partially through the cortex of the lens. The lens is then refilled with a synthetic lens material. Sufficient lens core is left in place so that the synthetic material is not in contact with a lens capsule of the eye. The synthetic material used for refilling may be selected and may be formed in a shape and thickness so as to affect the refractive characteristics of the lens. An endocapsular lenticule may be inserted in the lens to affect the refractive characteristics of the lens.

Restoration of accommodation by lens refilling

An ophthalmic refractor is described that provides a non-linear relationship between spherical power and refractive error by positioning a reference plane for a sensor system of the refractor in front of the cornea. The refractor may have a working distance and dynamic range that enable it to be mounted on a surgical microscope. Also described are computational methods for analysing the output from the ophthalmic refractor, utilising error minimisation, linear regression and Fourier Transform analysis.

Ophthalmic refractor and method of ophthalmic refractor signal analysis

Systems, methods and apparatuses for an intraocular imaging system are disclosed comprising an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system. The OCT system has an imaging range that may enable substantial portions of an eye or even a whole eye to be imaged. The OCT system may be coupled to an operation microscope, such that, for example, a surgeon can visualize ocular structures like the human crystalline lens and other ocular structures such as the cornea and/or vitreous while surgical instruments are in the field of view.

A method of inserting and securing a corneal implant in engaging and fluid-flow limiting relation to the posterior cornea, such as to treat edema. Corneal implant and method of delivering a corneal implant

A keratoprosthesis and system and method of using same for corneal repair. The keratoprosthesis comprises a biocompatible support and an optic member disposed through a channel within the support. The support includes metal, preferably titanium, and treated, such as by sandblasting and/or acid etching, to create textured surfaces that promote soft tissue adhesion. A locking member interconnects the optic member and support. An outer surface of the locking member a collar extending from the support and disposed around the optic member is also metal, preferably titanium, and is similarly treated to promote soft tissue adhesion. A locking member interconnects the optic member and support. The system includes the keratoprosthesis positioned within an isolated soft tissue segment of a non-ocular tissue, such as buccal mucosa, placed on the anterior cornea. The method includes removing corneal epithelium, isolating and transplanting a segment of soft tissue to the de-epithelialized cornea, creating a receiving area in the soft tissue, positioning a keratoprosthesis relative to the receiving area anterior to the cornea, and securing the keratoprosthesis.

A small animal imaging system comprising a base element and a camera coupled to the base element, the camera being sized to image the eye of a small animal. A light-emitting diode is also included coupled to the base element. An OCT imaging apparatus is also included coupled to the base element. An X-Y scanner is also included coupled to the base element in communication with the OCT imaging apparatus.

Retinal imaging system for the mouse or rat or other small animals

A method of suturing the lens capsule of the eye in the event of accidental rupture thereof or to create a valve and/or to close a capsulorhexis by laser-induced welding onto the capsule's surface of a flap of biocompatible biological tissue prepared so as to be optically absorbent at the wavelength of the laser being used for welding. The method is suitable for use in so-called Phaco-Ersatz or 'lens refilling' ophthalmologic surgery. Welding is desirably performed using laser devices that comprise a laser generator and a fiberoptic system for conveying the laser beam, complete with an applicator handpiece suitable for use in welding the flaps onto the lens capsule in a liquid environment. The handpiece is shaped so as to exert moderate pressure on the tissues to be welded with the free end of the optic fiber.

Optical fiber laser device and method for ocular suturing

A method of thermally inducing and monitoring changes to localized regions of tissue by illuminating a volume of tissue with a first beam of X-rays, detecting portions of the first beam that passed through the volume, generating a first image signal from the portions of the first beam detected, applying heat to at least a localized region of tissue within the volume after the illuminating and detecting, illuminating the volume with a second beam of X-rays, detecting portions of the second beam that passed through the volume during the illuminating with the second beam, generating a second image signal from the portions of the second beam detected, and generating a difference image signal based upon a comparison of the first and second image signals. The difference image signal provides information of changes in X-ray attenuation by localized regions of tissue within the volume due to the application of heat.

Intraoperative monitoring of temperature-induced tissue changes with a high-resolution digital X-ray system during thermotherapy

The present invention relates to a method of determining the IOL refractive index for an ocular replacement material for replacing tissue in the capsular bag comprising combining a neutral (non-correcting) reference refractive index ('NRRI') of between 1.421 and 1.450 with a refractive index correction factor ('RICF') ascertained by reference to the refractive power required to correct the patient's refractive error. The present invention also relates to methods of treating presbyopia, myopia and hyperopia using the above method.
