A sash window hinge for pivotally connecting a window having a window sash to a window frame. The window hinge includes an elongated track having a track base wall attachable to the window frame. The track also includes a track flange extending from at least a portion of a base wall first longitudinal edge The track flange defines a flange retaining section. The window hinge also includes an elongated sash arm attachable to the window sash and a carriage component pivotally attached to the sash arm. The carriage component is mounted on the base wall in a carriage operational configuration for slidable movement along the track longitudinal axis between an open window position and a closed window position while being guided by the track flange and retained by the flange retaining section. The window hinge further includes a support arm for pivotally linking the sash arm and the track. A securing structure other then the flange retaining section extends between the track base wall and the carriage component for maintaining the carriage component in the carriage operational configuration. The securing structure prevents the carriage component from being separated from the flange retaining section when pressure is exerted on the window.

Apparatus for loading contact pins into a loading fixture, the pins in two or more rows, has a magazine for holding pins in a plurality of vertically stacked rows. Automatic insertion members push pins from the magazine into the loading fixture. The number of pins, and disposition of the pins, in a row can be predetermined by a template. The pins are swaged at a position intermediate the ends and thus do not stack level in the magazine. The magazine is provided with a stepped formation so as to offset the effect of the swage and provide for pins to be horizontal at the levels at which they are to be inserted into the loading fixture. Small rings of solder can be positioned on the pins prior to insertion in the board.

Contact pins, of square cross-section and having a swaged portion nearer one end, are oriented so as to be fed to a magazine or other device with the ends nearer the swage portion all in the same direction. The pins move along channel-shaped grooves, over slots in the grooves. The slots have parts of different widths such that, the longer end of a pin falls down first, followed by the swaged portion end. In one orientation, with the swaged portion leading, the swaged portion holds the pin up over the slot until the longer end can fall down, while in an alternative orientation, with the swaged portion lagging, the longer end falls through as the pin moves over the slot.

Contact pin feeding and orienting apparatus

In an apparatus for preforming the ends of wire leads of lead frames, prior to bonding, the lead frames are fed successively through a preforming position. A positioning and alignment device is provided correctly positioning the lead frames prior to preforming, the device using as datum surfaces, surfaces used to position the lead frames during manufacture. Typically the lead frames are produced on perforated strip film and the perforations act as positioning datum surfaces during manufacture and during preforming. After preforming the lead frames are fed to a bonding position for automatic bonding, as by an ultrasonic wobble bonding tool.

Apparatus for preforming wire leads and alignment for bonding

An ultrasonic wobble-bonding apparatus for bonding leads of lead frames has a bonding tool attached to a support member which is mounted on a double axis pivot or trunnion, the pivot or trunnion in turn mounted on a sector bearing. The interception of the two axis is on a center common with the active surface of the bonding tool, the active surface being concave. The tool is moved about the two axes in a predetermined manner such that the common center on the active surface -- which is also the contact position between tool and lead frames -- follows a predetermined path on the active surface. The pivot and sector bearing are displaced from the bonding tool to leave a clear working space -- particularly useful for automatic bonding of leads of lead frames arranged in long strips or coils.

Apparatus for bonding wire leads

The removal of connector pins from a panel, such as a printed circuit board, in which the pin extends from the panel and is soldered to a circuit member on one or both sides of the panel, is achieved by a tool positioned over the pin and having a main body member which is held in contact with the panel surface and with an axially sliding gripping member having a split gripping portion. The gripping member is moved by a tubular member surrounding the gripping member and which, on axial movement, forces the split gripping portion of the gripping member into firm frictional contact with the pin, further axial movement of the tubular member moving the gripping member and pin axially shearing the solder joint. The tubular member is moved by a pivotally mounted handle, the reaction from the pivoting of the handle and pulling on the pin holding the tool firmly against the panel. The pin is removed without damage to the panel and a new pin can be inserted and resoldered using the remaining solder at the joint.
