The processing means, which control the power assisted steering motor (), determine and give consideration to a first steering angle signal (A) determined as a function of the calculation or measurement of the force or torque delivered by the power assisted steering motor () and possibly of the steering torque or force applied by the driver to the steering wheel (), a second steering angle signal (B) determined as a function of the calculation of the measurement of the angular position of the power assisted steering motor (), a third signal (C) of the 'index' type, that is to say of the type emitted for certain angular positions of the steering system (), a convergence signal (D) indicative of the convergence of the steering angle calculations, and a confirmation signal (E) confirming the calculation of the steering angle, the convergence signal (D) being produced thanks to the signal (C) of 'index' type to indicate a confidence level on the estimated steering angle value. The invention can be applied to vehicles that have an automated steering function.

Motor vehicle electric power assisted steering system

The steering system of the invention includes a processing means () comprising a means for determining () a driving signal (S) of the power means () on the basis of: a first control signal (S) determined from the measure of a torque applied by the driver on the steering wheel by applying a gain that depends on the longitudinal speed of the vehicle; a second correction signal (S) determined from the measure of the torque applied by the driver on the steering wheel, and a setpoint determined on the basis of at least one characteristic parameter of the lateral dynamics of the vehicle.

The method consists of, when the instantaneous speed of the vehicle is greater than a pre-determined threshold: identifying that the vehicle travels in a straight line without torque exerted on the steering wheel; if the prior condition is met, determining an average residual torque for the steering wheel by calculating a sliding scale of measures of torque on the steering wheel; calculating a correction, if the average residual torque on the steering wheel is greater than a pre-determined minimum torque, which is proportional to the average residual torque to be applied to the torque measures on the steering wheel; calculating effective correction limited in terms of the speed of variation and amplitude in relation to the correction applied to the measures of torque on the steering wheel, said corrected measures being subsequently treated by the electronic calculator in order to control the electronic booster motor.

Method for correcting measurements of the torque exerted on a steering wheel of an automobile vehicle electric power-assisted steering

The invention relates to a method for motor vehicles provided with an electrical sero steering controlled by an electronic processor. The method comprises using an electrical signal within the processor which has at least one component image of the parasite vibrations coming from the front subframe. Said signal is filtered such as to isolate the component image of the parasite vibrations, from which a corrective value for the control current, which controls the electric servo motor for the steering, is calculated. The corrective value thus calculated is subtracted from the current control, determined by taking into account other parameters, to give a corrected control current, which gives to rise to an attenuation in the vibrations transmitted to the steering system and the steering wheel by acting on the servo steering.

Method of damping the parasitic vibrations coming from the front axle assembly of a motor vehicle

The invention relates to motor vehicles which are equipped with an electric power steering system. Using a known method, the value of the maximum current that is allowed to travel through the electric assist motor is calculated at each instant (t), and a threshold value is determined for said maximum calculated current. Once the value of the maximum calculated current at each instant reaches the threshold value, a gradually-decreasing percentage is applied to the assist current calculated as a function of the torque (C) applied to the steering wheel. In this way, the assist current is reduced before the assist motor thermal protection procedure is activated, such that the driver is not surprised by a sudden lack of power assistance.
