A method for manufacturing an implantable medical device, the method including the steps of: (a) providing in a vapor deposition chamber a substrate including a substrate material, an anodic source made of an anodic material, and a cathodic source made of a cathodic material, the anodic and cathodic materials forming a galvanic couple; (b) operating the vapor deposition chamber to vaporize simultaneously the anodic and cathodic materials from the anodic and cathodic sources and depositing the vaporized cathodic and anodic materials on the substrate to produce a coated substrate including the substrate material coated by a bioresorbable coating; and (c) obtaining the implantable medical device from the coated substrate. Also, a stent, a medical device and a bioresorbable material obtained with vapor deposition of materials forming a galvanic couple.

The present describes an oxygen functionalized nanoflake (O-GNF), a stable nanofluid in which the graphene nanoflakes remain dispersed or in suspension free of surfactants, and the method of making the oxygen-functionalized nanoflake. The oxygen-functionalized graphene nanoflake (O-GNF and/or O&#x2014;N-GNF) comprises a single-crystal graphene nanoflake of 5-20 atomic planes comprising a surface oxygen-functionalization, wherein the O-GNF comprise a degree of oxygen functionalization from about 6 to about 25 at. % oxygen by weight of the GNF with a preferred oxygen functionalization of about 14 at. % oxygen.

The present invention provides a process for the manufacture of carbon nanostructures, the carbon nanostructures being selected from carbon nanotubes and carbon nano-onions. The method comprises the steps of injecting a carbon-containing gas into a plasma flame generated from a plasma forming gas to provide atomic carbon, which in the presence of in situ generated nanometer sized metal catalyst particles that act as nucleation points for growth of carbon nanostructures, produce the carbon nanostructures, and collecting the carbon nanostructures.

A method and apparatus for vacuum arc deposition of carbon on a substrate inhibits or eliminates emission of contaminating carbon particles in the ion plasma by maintaining an elevated local plasma pressure at the cathode or target surface, thereby minimizing the role of heat conduction in the creation of the particles and strongly increasing the electron emission cooling effects.
