A method and apparatus are provided. The method includes receiving, at a TEmode add/drop filter, a TEmode optical signal having a first wavelength and a second wavelength, and transmitting, from the TEmode add/drop filter, the TEmode optical signal having the first wavelength and the second wavelength towards a Bragg grating, without converting the TEmode optical signal having the first wavelength and the second wavelength to another mode. The method further includes receiving, at the TEmode add/drop filter, a reflected TEmode optical signal having the first wavelength from the Bragg grating, and transmitting, from the TEmode add/drop filter, the reflected TEmode optical signal having the first wavelength towards a photodetector, without converting the reflected TEmode optical signal having the first wavelength to another mode.

Wavelength division multiplexing architecture based on integrated bragg and adiabatic TE0 mode add/drop filter

A device and method are provided. The device includes a bus waveguide having a longitudinal axis, a lower waveguide disposed on a first side of the bus waveguide, and an upper waveguide disposed on a second side of the bus waveguide opposite to the first side of the bus waveguide, wherein the upper waveguide substantially matches a path of the lower waveguide. The method includes receiving a TEmode optical signal on a bus waveguide, receiving a TEmode optical signal on a lower waveguide disposed below the bus waveguide, mode multiplexing the TEmode optical signal and the TEmode optical signal without converting the TEmode optical signal or the TEmode optical signal to another mode, and outputting the TEmode optical signal and the TEmode optical signal on the bus waveguide.

The polarization controller adjusts, based on the transverse magnetic component, the optical signal emitted from the optical source such that the transverse magnetic component is reduced.
