An aerosol-generating system is provided, including: an aerosol-generating device to receive an aerosol-forming substrate and generate an aerosol from the substrate, the device including a rechargeable power source; a charger electrically connectable to the device to supply power to the device to recharge the power source; and an electrical connector including: a first connector part including electrical contacts and a first magnetic element, and a second connector part, releasably electrically connectable to the first part and including electrical contacts, at least one of which is a resilient contact actuable between an extended position and a depressed position and is biased to return to the extended position, and a second magnetic element, the device including one of the first and second connector parts and the charger including the other one of the first and second connector parts, and the first and second connector parts are positionable in a first connection position.

An aerosol-generating device is provided, including a housing; a cavity; an aperture at least partially defined by the housing and being positioned at an end of the cavity for insertion of the article into the cavity through the aperture; a cover element arranged for movement relative to the housing between a closed position partially covering the aperture and an open position partially uncovered; a sensor including a Hall effect sensor to provide an electrical signal indicative of a position of the cover element; an electrical heater to heat the article within the cavity and extending around an outer surface of an article received within the cavity; and an indicator element for movement relative to the sensor when moved between the closed and the open positions, the signal being determined by a position of the indicator element relative to the sensor, the indicator element including a magnetic material.

Aerosol-generating device comprising a cover element sensor

An aerosol-generating device is provided, including: a housing including an end wall; a cavity configured to removably receive an aerosol-generating article; an aperture at least partially defined by the housing and extending through a first portion of the end wall, the aperture being disposed at an end of the cavity and configured for insertion of the article into the cavity through the aperture; and a cover configured for rotational movement with respect to the housing and being rotatable between a closed position entirely covering the aperture and an open position in which the aperture is entirely uncovered and the cover overlies a second portion of the end wall, the cover including a cover portion and a shaft portion extending orthogonally from the cover portion, the cover portion entirely covering the aperture when the cover is in the closed position, and the shaft portion being received within the housing.

Aerosol-generating device comprising a cover element

An aerosol-generating device is provided, including: a first housing; a second housing configured to move relative to the first housing; a cavity configured to receive an aerosol-generating article; an aperture at least partially defined by the second housing and disposed at an end of the cavity for insertion of the article through the aperture; a cover element configured to move, with respect to the second housing, between a closed position in which the cover element at least partially covers the aperture and an open position in which the aperture is at least partially uncovered; a latching mechanism to retain the cover element in the open position and to release the cover element when the second housing is moved relative to the first housing; and a closing mechanism to move the cover element away from the open position and into the closed position when the latching mechanism releases the cover element.

Aerosol-generating device comprising a cover element mechanism

An extractor configured to extract an aerosol-generating article received in an aerosol-generating device is provided, the extractor including: a body defining a cavity configured to receive an aerosol-generating article; and a resilient coupling element attached to the body, the resilient coupling element is movable independent of the body to releasably couple the extractor to a portion of the aerosol-generating device. There is also provided an aerosol-generating device and a mouthpiece for an aerosol-generating device, both including the extractor.

Extractor for an aerosol-generating device

An aerosol-generating device is provided, including: a housing; a cavity to receive an aerosol-generating article; an aperture at least partially defined by the housing and disposed at an end of the cavity for insertion of the article through the aperture; a cover element to move relative to the housing between a closed position and an open position; a sensor to provide an electrical signal indicative of a position of the cover element with respect to the aperture and including an optical sensor; and an indicator element to move relative to the sensor when the cover element is moved between the closed and the open positions and including an optical surface, the signal being determined by a position of the indicator element relative to the sensor, and the optical surface being configured to move relative to the optical sensor when the cover element moves between the closed and the open positions.

An aerosol-generating device is provided, including: a housing; a cavity to receive an aerosol-generating article; an aperture at least partially defined by the housing and disposed at an end of the cavity for insertion of the article through the aperture; a cover element to move, with respect to the housing, between a closed position and an open position; a sensor to provide an electrical signal indicative of a position of the cover element with respect to the aperture; an indicator element to move relative to the sensor and the cover element when the cover element is moved between the closed and the open positions, the signal being determined by a position of the indicator element relative to the sensor; and a mechanical linkage translating movement of the cover element between the closed and the open positions into movement of the indicator element with respect to the sensor.

An electrically operated aerosol-generating system is provided, including an aerosol-generating device and a case configured to receive the aerosol-generating device. The case includes a housing having an opening and a device holder pivotally coupled to the housing and pivotable relative to the housing between an open position and a closed position. The device holder includes an external wall and one or more internal walls arranged to releasably hold the aerosol-generating device. The device holder has a first end and a second end, opposite the first end, and the device holder is pivotally coupled to the housing at or around the first end.

Aerosol-generating system with case

An electrically operated aerosol-generating system is provided, including an aerosol-generating device having a first connector part; a charging unit to receive the device and having a second connector part. The first part includes first through third electrical contacts, the third at least partially circumscribes the first. The second part includes first through third electrical contacts, the second and the third being spaced radially outwardly from the first. The first and the second parts electrically engage when the device is received by the charging unit, such that the first contact of the first and the second parts engage, the second contract of the first part engages the second or the third contact of the second part, and the third contact of the first part engages the other of the second or the third contact of the second part, regardless of angular position of the second part relative to the first.
