An extruder assembly for forming a multi-layered composite is described, the extruder assembly includes an extruder head having a first and second flow passage, a first and second extruder in fluid communication with the respective first and second flow passage, and a splice bar having a first and second passageway extending from a rear side to an outlet side, and communicating flow from the first and second passageway to an outlet die. The splice bar further includes a groove located on the rear side of the splice bar and being positioned between the first and second passageway.

A mixing and extrusion machine for tire sealant materials of the type comprising: a dump extruder equipped with conical converging twin screws located in a batching chamber, said chamber having a low pressure feeding area and a high pressure ducted area; a removable blind flange for temporarily sealing the outlet of said batching chamber so that said material is forced to recirculate between said duct area and said feeding area within said batching chamber, said chamber thereby also acting as a compounding chamber; and an inlet port located in the high pressure ducted area, the inlet port capable of introducing a diluent during mixing of a tire sealant material.

An autoclave suitable for use for heating articles such as tires is described. The autoclave includes an elongated chamber having an interior section and an annular duct surrounding the interior section, wherein the annular duct is separated from the interior section by a dividing wall; said autoclave further including a heat source for heating the air, a fan for circulating the air in the chamber, and an air deflector mounted in a distal end of the chamber. The air deflector is positioned to redirect the airflow towards the interior portion of the chamber to eliminate air recirculation zones and improve the temperature uniformity.

The invention relates to the extrusion of tire components with a large change of gauge across their cross-sectional area. It is provided a method and an assembly for extruding such a tire component with an extruder feeding a flow channel with a downstream die opening, whereby a deflector is provided in the flow channel upstream the die opening such that a flow of rubber is slowed down in front of broad portions of the cross-sectional area of the downstream die, avoiding distortion or bending of the extruded tire component.

This invention relates to a tire having an electrically non-conductive tread which contains an electrically conductive rubber strip which extends through at least a portion of the tread to its running surface in a wave configured shape, and therefore not a continuous straight line within said tread, in which at least a portion of the rubber strip is in a shape of, for example, a substantially sinusoidal, cycloidal and/or zigzag form, to thereby provide a mechanical self-locking configuration between tread segments through which the rubber strip extends and divides. In particular, said tread is composed of a cap/base configuration. The outer cap layer is of a relatively electrically non-conductive rubber composition having a running surface intended to be ground-contacting. The tread base layer, underlying the tread cap layer, is of a relatively electrically conductive rubber composition and is not normally intended to be ground-contacting. A thin rubber strip, unitary with and as an extension of said tread base layer, which is thereby relatively electrically conductive, extends radially outward from said tread base layer of which at least a portion of the rubber strip is in a form of a wave-shaped configuration through, and therefore within, said tread cap layer to an outer running surface of said tread cap layer. In practice therefore, said rubber strip extends from, and as a part of, said tread base layer through said tread cap layer. In practice, said thin layer extending in said tread cap exhibits substantially at least one half an undulation, and preferably substantially at least two undulations of its wave configured shape of, for example, a substantially sinusoidal, cycloid al and/or zigzag form. The form of the individual undulations of the wave shaped configuration of the strip within the tread may be the same or different.

A pneumatic rubber tire containing at least one electrically conductive cord extending between its bead and tread portions to provide a path of least electrical resistance. The electrically conductive cord is comprised of at least one electrically conductive metal filament spirally wound around a centrally disposed core of at least one organic fiber. The electrically conductive cord does not extend to, and is exclusive of, an outer surface of the tire.

This invention relates to a pneumatic rubber tire which contains at least one electrically conductive cord extending from an external outer surface of its wheel-rim mounting surface rubber component to an internal electrically conductive tread base layer rubber component to provide a path of least electrical resistance, namely an electrically conductive path, between the outer tire wheel-rim mounting surface and the internal tire tread base layer. The electrically conductive cord is comprised of at least one electrically conductive metal filament (e.g. metal filament, carbon fiber or combination of metal filament and carbon fiber) spirally wound around a centrally disposed core of at least one organic fiber.

This invention relates to the preparation of a multi-layered rubber composite, said composite and a tire having a component prepared thereby. The multi-layered rubber composite is composed of at least two individual rubber compositions configured as at least three parallel aligned alternating rubber layers, wherein each rubber layer extends through the rubber composite thickness from one side to the other opposing side. The multi-layered rubber composite is prepared by co-extruding at least two individual rubber compositions, via an individual extruder for each rubber composition, to an internal cavity of a former. Said former is comprised of an internal cavity which contains a sequence of flow deflectors and channels for guiding the at least two individual rubber compositions to form said multi-layered rubber composite in a single manufacturing step.

The invention relates to a rubber tire, and its preparation, composed of carbon black reinforced rubber carcass with an outer, circumferential rubber tread construction of a rubber composition having a relatively high electrical resistivity. The tire tread construction has an electrically conductive filamentary thread stitched through the tread construction and extending between the inner surface of the tread to its outer surface. An electrically conductive path is thereby created through the tire tread.
