Hybrid photoinitiators

The invention relates to the use of triazenes of formula (I) wherein Q is a direct bond or a bivalent radical &#x2014;(CRR)&#x2014;, Zis &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;NR&#x2014;, &#x2014;CH&#x2014;, &#x2014;(CRR)&#x2014; or &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014; and Rto Rare optionally substituted hydrocarbon residues, as precursors for radicals useful in reactions triggered by free radicals, such as polymerization of unsaturated monomers and degradation of polyolefins. Most of the triazenes of formula (I) are novel and claimed, too, as well as the preparation of triazenes of formula (I) and polymerizable compositions comprising them. 

Polymerizable compositions

The present invention provides heat-sensitive coating compositions, which comprise a color developer of formula (1) or mixtures thereof wherein Rcan be hydrogen, C-alkyl, C-cycloalkyl, C-alkenyl, aryl or SOH, and Rand Rcan be the same or different and can be hydrogen, halogen, C-alkyl, C-cyclo-alkyl, C-alkenyl, aryl, OR, NRR, SR, SOH or COORand Rand Rcan be the same or different, and can be hydrogen, halogen, C-alkyl, C-cyclo-alkyl, C-alkenyl, aryl, OR, NRRor SR, R, R, R, Rand Rcan be the same or different and can be hydrogen, C-alkyl, C-cycloalkyl, C-alkenyl or aryl, wherein C-alkyl can be unsubstituted or substituted with one or more C-cycloalkyl, C-alkenyl, phenyl, halogen, OR, NRR, SR, SOH or COOR, and aryl can be unsubstituted or substituted with one or more halogen, C-alkyl, halogenated C-alkyl, C-cycloalkyl C-alkenyl, phenyl, OR, NRR, SR, SOH or COOR, wherein R, R, R, Rand Rcan be the same or different and can be hydrogen, C-alkyl, C-cycloalkyl or C-alkenyl, a process for the preparation of these compositions, a process of coating substrates with these compositions, substrates coated with these compositions, a process for preparing marked substrates using these compositions, marked substrates obtainable by the latter process, and certain color developers. 

Heat-sensitive coating compositions based on resorcinyl triazine derivatives

Photoinitiator compounds comprising both a photoactive moiety and an amine functionality, bonded to a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, which photoinitiator is represented by formula (1) or (1') wherein n is 2m; m is an integer of 2 to 30; the sum of n&#x2032;+a is an integer 4-60; n&#x2032; is an even-numbered integer; a is an even- or uneven-numbered integer; and for example different A C-Calkyl, or a photoactive moiety Q1, or a group of formula (2); E for example is a direct bond, L is linear or branched C-Calkylene, preferably propylene; Rand Rfor example are a photoactive moiety Q, or Calkyl; Q is for example a group of formula (4); Zis for example C-Calkylene which is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more OR; and R, R, Rand Rfor example are hydrogen; are especially suitable as low-migrating photoinitiators. 

Silsesquioxane photoinitiators

The invention pertains to novel oligofunctional photoinitiators of the formula (1) or (1A). Rand Rare methyl or together are &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;; and n is 2 or 3, and the solvent in (1A) is water or an organic solvent; and their use in photopolymerizable compositions, in particular inks. 

Oligofunctional photoinitiators

Compounds of the formula (I), wherein L, L, Land Lindependently of one another are hydrogen or an organic substituent; R is for example C-Calkyl, C-Ccycloalkyl, C-Calkenyl, substituted C-Calkyl; X is O, S, NRor NCOR; Ris for example hydrogen or C-Calkyl; and Y is an inorganic or organic anion; are suitable as photolatent acid generators. 

Sulphonium salt photoinitiators

Compounds of the formula (I), (II), (III), (IV) and wherein, R is hydrogen, C-Calkyl; C-Calkyl interrupted by one or more O; is -L-X&#x2014;Ror -L-R; Rhas for example one of the meanings as given for R; Ris a monovalent sensitizer or photoinitiator moiety; Arand Arfor example independently of one another are phenyl substituted by C-Calkyl, halogen or OR; or are unsubstituted naphthyl, anthryl, phenanthryl or biphenylyl; or are naphthyl, anthryl, phenanthryl or biphenylyl substituted by C-Calkyl, OH or OR; or are &#x2014;Ar-A-Ar; Aris unsubstituted phenyl naphthyl, anthryl, phenanthryl or biphenylyl; or is phenyl, naphthyl, anthryl, phenanthryl or biphenylyl substituted by C-Calkyl, ORor benzoyl; Aris phenylene, naphthylene, anthrylene or phenanthrylene; A is a direct bond, S, O or C-Calkylene; X is CO, C(O)O, OC(O), O, S or NR; L is C-Calkylene or C-Calkylene interrupted by one or more O; Ris C-Calkyl or C-Chydroxyalkyl; and Y is an anion, are suitable as photolatent acid generators. 

Sulphonium salt initiators

The invention accordingly relates to an optical recording medium comprising a substrate, a reflecting layer and a recording layer, wherein the recording layer comprises a compound of formula (I) or a mesomeric or a tautomeric form thereof, wherein Mis a metal cation in the oxidation state +3, a hydroxy or halogeno metal group wherein the metal is in the oxidation state +4, or an oxo metal group wherein the metal is in the oxidation state +5; (III) and (IV)are each independently of the other (V), (VI) or (VII); (VIII) is (IX), (X), (XI), (XII), (XIII), or (XIV); (XV) is (XVI) or Cheteroaryl unsubstituted or mono- or poly-substituted by R, R, Rand/or R; Qis N or CR, Qis N or CR, Q, Qand Qare each independently of the other CRR, O, S or NR, Qis CRor N and Qis CRor N; and Rand/or Rare O, S or NR. Please see the disclosure for the other substituents which are less relevant. The compounds of formula (I) are novel and also claimed, as well as the compound of formula (II), or a mesomer or tautomer thereof, wherein R38 is halogen , CF, NO, CN, COR, COOR, SOR, NCO or SCN, G, GM, RR, R, R, R, R, Rand Rare as defined in formula (I), Mis a cation with m positive charges, and m is an integer 1, 2 or 3. The optical recording media are remarkably suitable for DVD&#xb1;R (658 nm), especially at high recording speeds. 

High-capacity optical storage media

The invention relates to novel photoinitiators of formula (I) wherein each of the substituents is given the definition as set forth in the Specification and the claims. The photoinitiators can be used to prepare multifunctional photoinitiators.
