The invention relates to an alloy having high temperature mechanical strength in an oxidizing medium and comprising a carbide-precipitation-strengthened matrix containing chromium. The invention is characterized in that the alloy comprises carbides of at least one metal (M) selected from among titanium, zirconium and hafnium, said carbides also optionally containing (M') tantalum. The invention is suitable for articles that require high temperature mechanical strength, such as for hot glass processing or production.

The invention relates to thermally-stable mineral wool which can dissolve in a physiological medium, comprising fibres containing the following constituents, expressed in percentage by weight, namely: 35-60 % SiO, preferably 39-55 %; 12-27% AlO, preferably 16-25%; 0-35% CaO, preferably 3-25%; 0-30% MgO, preferably 0-15%; 0-17% NaO, preferably 6-12%; 0-17% KO, preferably 3-12%; 10-17% RO (NaO+KO), preferably 12-17%; 0-5% PO, preferably 0-2%; 0-20% FeO; 0-8% BO, preferably 0-4%; and 0-3% TiO, and at least one phosphorous compound that can react with said fibres at a temperature of less than 1000&#xb0; C. in order to form a coating on the surface thereof. The invention is characterised in that the phosphorous content of said compound, as expressed in phosphorus atom weight, varies between 0.0005%, in particular more than 0.01%, and 1%, in particular less than 0.5%, of the total weight of the fibres. The invention is also characterised in that a phosphorus compound is a molecule in which the phosphorus atom(s) are bound to at least one carbon atom either directly or by means of an oxygen atom.

Cobalt based alloys exhibiting high-temperature mechanical strength in an oxidizing medium are provided. The alloys are free of W and Hf and include the following elements in percentage by weight of the alloy: 23 to 34% Cr; 6 to 12% Ni; 6.0 to 10% Ta; 0.3 to 1.2% C; less than 3% Fe; less than 1% Si; less than 0.5% Mn; less than 0.1% Zr; and a balance of cobalt and impurities. The invention relates to a Cr,O,-forming alloy that is resistant to oxidization and/or corrosion at high temperature, especially by glass, characterized in that it contains, in dispersion within its matrix, chromium oxide Cr,O,, or a precursor of this oxide. This alloy can be prepared by powder metallurgy using a process of hot consolidation of metallic powders, in particular by sintering. The alloy is especially suitable for articles which are to be used in a high-temperature oxidizing or corrosive environment.
