A drier for drying boards comprises at least one conduit for directing airflow towards one of the faces of the board. The drier is configured such that at least a portion of the airflow travels across the face of the board along the longitudinal axis of the drier, the longitudinal axis of the drier being the axis along which the board travels as it is dried.

A pressing assembly () and a method for forming a depression () within a moving, wet gypsum board () is disclosed. The assembly comprises a pressing head () comprising a pressing surface which is arranged to contact the board, and a support member (), the pressing head () being arranged to compress a portion of the board between the pressing surface and the support member () to form a depression () within the board (). The pressing surface comprises a first and second surface portion () separated by a relief portion (), which is arranged to press the board () toward the support head () with less compressive force than the first and second surface portion (). The assembly further comprises drive means () for moving the pressing head and the support member in a first direction which substantially corresponds with the direction of the moving board, and a second direction which is substantially perpendicular to a plane of the board, while the speed of the pressing assembly in the first direction substantially matches the speed of the board.

Pressing assembly and a method for forming a depression within a moving, wet gypsum board

An actuator for controlling the operation of an apparatus comprises a panel () and an acoustic sensor (). The panel provides a partition within a building structure, while the acoustic sensor is adapted to detect acoustic waves propagating through the panel. When a user exerts pressure against the panel, the sensor detects the acoustic waves that are formed and emits signals for controlling the operation of an apparatus, such as a doorbell, a light source, a television, a sound system, a ventilation system, a window blind, a radio or an alarm.

Actuator and method of manufacture thereof

A method of forming a gypsum based product is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: calcining a mixture of water and gypsum under conditions of raised temperature and pressure within a vessel to produce an alpha-hemihydrate slurry therein; passing the alpha-hemihydrate slurry from the vessel to a mixer for mixing with additional water to produce a settable slurry, which is arranged to set to form the gypsum based product.

Method of forming a gypsum based product

A control system and method for a dryer used to dry a line of gypsum boards. The control system automates control of the dryer by measuring the amount of water used at the mixer to produce board segments and determining a desired amount of water to be evaporated for each board segment based on the measured value. The desired amount of water to be evaporated for each board segment is tracked through the production line and the total evaporation load of each dryer zone is continuously calculated based on the board segments located in the dryer zone at a given time. The dryer zone differential temperature is adjusted according to the calculated evaporation load. When a board is rejected from the board line, the desired amounts of water to be evaporated of its corresponding board segments are set to zero, thus signifying a gap. The control system can be implemented using a distributed control concept, with PLC's controlling major process areas, and networked PC based supervisory operator interfaces located at key locations throughout the production line.
