A pet milk powder of a cow's milk powder which contains lactose, and lactase in an amount sufficient to reduce the symptoms of gastrointestinal intolerance in pets when the powder or a solution made from the powder is ingested by the pet. At least a portion of the lactose in the pet milk powder is hydrolyzed upon reconstitution of the powder with a solvent. Also, a pet milk-based drink made by reconstituting the powder with a solvent such as water.

Milk-based powder for pets

A pet milk powder which, when reconstituted and fed to a pet as a nutritional milk, results in reduced gastrointestinal intolerance. This powder is a cow's milk powder that contains lactose and to which is added a lactase, preferably one that is active under acidic conditions, such as a &bgr;-galactosidase.

Chitosan in a form of a polymer having a molecular weight of from 3,000 to 700,000 is incorporated into a cosmetic preparation in an amount effective for inhibiting growth of microorganisms in the cosmetic preparation.

Enzymatic catalysts are produced from mineral particles coated with chitosan. The enzymes may be directly absorbed onto the surface after a cross-linking treatment to stablize the coating or immobilized by chemical bonds after a treatment with a bifunctional reagent, for example with glutaraldehyde. The stability of the biocatalyst is advantageously increased by retreatment with a bifunctional reagent after immobilization of the enzyme. Enzymes sensitive to glutaraldehyde are fixed by a carbodiimide. The catalysts thus prepared are insoluble in aqueous solutions. The particles are rigid and incompressible and are suitable for use in fixed-bed and fluidized-bed reactors. The immobilization yield may reach 90% depending on the circumstances.

An extract of squid liver in a brine is prepared and the cleaned and eviscerated squid is immersed in the extract to dissolve the thin and resistant membrane situated between the flesh and the skin of the squid.
